This is a joint blog entry by Greg Kowalski of Metro Milwaukee Today and Zach of Blogging Blue.

In recent weeks, both of us have spent time blogging about the goings-on in Cudahy regarding the recall of their mayor because of his vote against allowing a Wal-Mart in Cudahy. As we’ve blogged about the situation in Cudahy, we’ve both been inundated with comments from a very passionate individual who supports putting a Wal-Mart in Cudahy. The commenter in question – Tom/Tony Collins - has only recently appeared on both of our sites, and while we both appreciate what Mr. Collins has brought to the debate about the Cudahy Wal-Mart, we’ve come to realize Tom/Tony Collins is actually an alias name for another blogger in sockpuppet mode. The sockpuppet in question is none other than CudahyNOW blogger, Wal-Mart secret activist, and McCue recall supporter Randy Hollenbeck!

In reading Mr. Hollenbeck’s blog, we both felt that while we don’t agree with many of his views, we appreciate Mr. Hollenbeck’s passion in sharing his viewpoints. Both of us shared our sympathy with Mr. Hollenbeck in light of recent personal attacks on his family due to the Wal-Mart situation. The kinds of personal attacks Mr. Hollenbeck has come under simply for sharing his views are uncalled for, but what’s also uncalled for is using a false identity to post on another blog. It’s bad net etiquette, and what’s more, it says something about the person using the false identity.

Most folks who blog do so to share their views on issues they’re passionate about, and that’s a great thing. Inevitably, folks are going to have disparate views on issues, and debate will no doubt ensue, but we think that’s a great thing. Debate is healthy, so long as it’s an honest debate, which is why we both politely encourage Mr. Hollenbeck to please, if he chooses to comment, post in his own name instead of somebody else’s. It’s unacceptable, unnecessary, and dishonest, and we both believe that if you’re going to express your opinion, don’t be ashamed to take ownership of your opinions and beliefs.

  1. Bravo! Well said, gentlemen. It doth make me proud to have thee in mine Royal Court. Good brave, honest knights, both of ye.

  2. I’m a knight? I thought I was the court jester!!

  3. No, that would go to a conservative. They always make me laugh.

  4. Fair Play says:

Yes…as you get your praises from “capper” who God knows never posts under different names…what sort of proof do you have that Hollenbeck is Collins? Or did I miss that in your post? And…who really gives a crap?BTW…isn’t it time to cut the apron strings ZachW. and grow-up? You’d think by now being “capper’s” lap dog would have gotten old for you.

  5. Aw, I’m no one’s “lap dog,” and let’s not make things personal.

As for my proof, Mr. Hollenbeck and Mr. Collins have identical IP addresses.

And to answer your question about who gives a crap, I do, and since this happens to be my own little slice of the interwebs, that should be all that really matters.

  6. Fair Play says:

Well…as far as your proof…there are people who do have identical IP addresses that are not the same people…so maybe you should try again.

Also…for the record…my comment isn’t personal…I am just trying to relate to you on your level. So…I take it you don’t appreciate it?

  7. You’re not trying to relate to me on any level; you’re trying to insult me, and for what it’s worth you’re doing a poor job of it.

    Keep on trying!

  8. Well now isn’t this just the height of hypocrisy.

Mr. hiding behind an alias and taking no personal responsiblity for his own numerous attacks on people is here praising away the outing of someone who tried to do just that.

Maybe it is time we let the world know Cappers identity.

  9. Fred, we didn’t “out” someone who posts with an alias; we outed someone who posted both with his real identity and as someone else. I don’t take issue with someone choosing not to use their real name; I just have a problem with someone taking on multiple identities in order to post.

Sure, capper posts using an alias, but at least his only identity is capper.

  10. Fair Play says:

Zach…you are kidding yourself if you don’t think many bloggers use different names. I can’t see one possible reason why Randy would need to use a different name…he seems pretty outspoken and not shy about who he is…but maybe he did for his own reasons. So…if he didn’t cause you any harm why would you smear him…especially since there is a possibility that they were two different people? Did you even bother emailing him to ask him about this situation?

  11. I don’t have any problem with what you did, it is your blog.

I have a problem with Capper who hides his real identity while spewing his venom without accepting any personal responsiblity.

Or can I call him Chris now?

  12. If Randy Hollenbeck isn’t Tom/Tony Collins, he’s welcome to say so.

  13. Fair Play says:

No…if you suspected Randy was Collins you should have investigated/confirmed your facts before smearing him. Randy seems like a nice guy who just doesn’t agree with you. Not to mention…he out debated the both of you several weeks ago on here. Hmmm…maybe this was pay back. Nice going Zach…you should be proud…especially after getting your ass licked by “capper”.

  14. I’m not into ass licking, FP, but whatever choices you make in the privacy of your own home is your business.

  15. I’d like to know how Fair Play came up with the assumption that multiple people can share the same IP address? Every PC has a different IP address. The only way it would be the same via a different person is if that person was using the same PC.

With that said, it could be Hollenbeck’s wife…but why have a male name?

I hope you see where I’m coming from on this, Fred and Fair Play.

  16. Fair Play says:

Greg…that is not correct from what I understand. This has been discussed on the JT blogs because there are some people who blog that have the same IP address and the reason that was given as to why they have same IP address is because they work in the same building. It is possible that I might be incorrect about this but it still doesn’t answer why you wouldn’t give Randy a chance to explain himself privately. I guess this is your schtick though…and if that is what makes the world go around for you…have at it.

BTW…Fred wasn’t even questioning the accusation that was made against Randy or your assumption about the identical IP address. He made an entirely different point.

  17. Fair Play says:

Ah…it’s nice to be moderated. Didn’t someone just post something about “conservatives” who moderate their blogs?

  18. No one’s moderating anything, but I could be convinced to make an exception, given your history.

  19. Fair Play says:

Yeah…okay Zach. You stick to that story.

  20. What story am I sticking to?

  21. Fair Play says:

The story that you weren’t moderating the comments because you were.

Also…I am not sure what you were implying about my “history” so why don’t you spit it out.

  22. I don’t moderate comments…never have, never will. As for your history, I only know what I was told about your behavior over at Whallah!

  23. Fair Play says:

You were told about my behavior over at “Whallah!”? Oh…that is rich considering every post over at “Whallah!” is a personal attack on people just because they don’t agree with your point of view. I am pretty sure that any comment that I made didn’t cross any kind of line (not that there is one over at “Whallah!”) so unless you can copy and paste what my infractions are/were anything “capper” might have told you is a lie.

Yes, your moderator was on. Deny it all you want…why would I make that up?

Anyways…it really doesn’t matter. I should have not even bothered to comment on your blog. It’s not like you all will ever understand making personal attacks on people is wrong. I will have to let those who are attack do their own defending because this shit really depresses me.

One last thing…I read some of your comments on BB and I can’t believe that a PO would know so little about Law Enforcement. I sure hope that you aren’t coddling your parolees and putting us (the public) at risk.

    Okay…I am done.

  24. You’re hardly in a position to lecture anyone about personal attacks.

As for what you think I don’t know about law enforcement, you’re entitled to your opinion, however uninformed it may be.
