I’ll be honest…

At the risk of losing my good standing as a card-carrying liberal, I’ve got a confession to make…

I’m not a fan of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of Speaker Pelosi, but that could be because she’s never really done anything impressive during her time as Speaker. The current House and Senate majorities are a direct result of the hard work of Rahm Emanuel and Sen. Chuck Schumer, and while Speaker Pelosi has served a valuable purpose as a fundraiser, she’s done nothing during her time as Speaker to distinguish herself.

  1. Seconded.

Every day she has been Speaker, I wish Dick Gephardt had stayed on long enough to fill the post. Pelosi is probably further to the left than most of the caucus (by virtue of the extremely liberal constituency), which is fine for an opposition party, but doesn’t work for the party in power, and pales in comparison to the legendary Democratic Speakers of the 20th Century (Rayburn, McCormack, Albert, Tip O’Neill). She does nothing to help the image of the party nationally, because she is a lightning rod for criticism.

I wish, rather than immediately rush to gloat about naming the first female Speaker, the Democrats had considered who is best suited to getting things done, to say nothing of becoming the acting President if, God forbid, anything were to happen to the President and Vice President.

  2. I am especially disgusted with her because I expect more from female politicians.

She could have done so much more than she has, and could have done it by building coalition instead of playing the “nyah nyah” game.

    Color me very disappointed.

  3. I agree. Pelosi and many her colleagues in the Senate have never had any interest in standing up against the Bush administration or against any of their criminal activities. She’s not interest in standing up for anything either, other than being reelected and protecting the status quo. I’m just sayin’….

  4. Yeah, is it too much to ask to have Democrats in Congress who have some balls? Pardon my language, but I’m tired of Democrats being unwilling to be bold and tackle big issues.

  5. Zach,

To be honest, I don’t know anyone who is a die hard fan of Ms. Pelosi. I think you can still hold onto your liberal card.
