Doyle flip-flops on DNR secretary

For years Governor Jim Doyle has supported the idea of an independent DNR secretary. What’s more, during his election and reelection campaigns, Doyle promised to support allowing the Natural Resources Board to again appoint the head of the Department of Natural Resources. However, in a surprising flip-flop, Governor Doyle has now said he favors keeping Secretary of the DNR as a position appointed by the governor, keeping in place the politicization of a position that should be free from politics. Instead of being a partisan appointment – whether Republican or Democrat – the Secretary of the DNR should be free to act as a responsible steward of our state’s natural resources.

It’s a shame Governory Doyle has flip-flopped on his support for an independent Secretary of the DNR. If you support an independent DNR secretary, please consider contacting your legislators through the Legislative Hotline at 800-362-9472. It might also be helpful to remind the Governor of his campaign promises by calling his office at 608-266-1212.
