Walker touts program he tried to kill

As reported by Steve Schultze of the All Politics Blog, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker touted a summer jobs program at an outdoor ceremony at Washington Park on Friday. However, as Walker was busy touting the program, it’s worth noting Walker vetoed $100,000 of the funding for the program in the 2009 budget, but the County Board overrode the veto on a 15-4 vote.
Someone needs to tell Scott Walker his hypocrisy is showing…

Again, did you read the same article I read?
Nowhere did he “tout” this (as the “reporter,” Steve Schultze mistakenly had as the headline). Walker simply said that the web site they set up for the county’s program had received an overwhelming number of applications for the summer part-time jobs in the parks. Yes, he did say that these are “good” and “exciting” jobs, but never did he argue that this was solely because of his own work.
“Walker vetoed $100,000 of the funding for the program in the 2009 budget, but the County Board overrode the veto on a 15-4 vote.” He vetoed $100,000 “of the” funding for these jobs. This money is unnecessary and its absence would not have killed the program. Instead, it would not have had the program expand as much as it has.
What is the point of adding all those positions, anyway? I remember when Lena Taylor kept arguing that the Milwaukee County Parks were such a disaster.
Really?
The parks are doing well and coming in well below the average for the amount of money that goes in to their operating costs per taxpayer. The national average is $63, Milwaukee County’s is $39. So, what’s the problem?
One may argue that the county should be creating jobs in an economy like the one we now possess. However, this would increase the crutch of publicly sponsored employment that would create overstaffed government positions that are nearly impossible to cut (hence the overrides to Walker’s attempts at budget cutting by our “Bar-Scene-of-Star Wars” County Board of Supervisors). Spending public money to create jobs is akin to standing in a bucket and trying to lift the bucket.
So, tell me more about Walker’s hypocrisy…
I’m not to up on my HTML, but I would at least like to post a link to another article by the same report from a few weeks ago that mentions how terrible are parks have become. He cannot help himself but throw in a few “yeah, but…” statements in there despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

All this without relying on tax increases. They rely heavily on the revenue gathered from many of the golf courses themselves.
Again, tell me more about this Walker hypocrisy…
