Tommywatch 2009
There’s been a Tommy Thompson sighting, and you’ll never guess what Tommy! is thinking about doing…
Asked about the possibility he’d run for governor now that Gov. Doyle has announced he won’t seek reelection, Thompson didn’t rule out a possible gubernatorial run of his own:
Thompson said Sunday he also was contemplating a run.
“It’s a possibility, but nothing imminent,” Thompson said. “I don’t have to make a decision till I’m ready to, and I’m not ready to for quite some time. I have plenty of time.”

Was the “you’ll never guess” line meant with irony? This is just Tommy being Tommy. His massive ego still likes to know people are speculating on what he will do. He pulled the same stunt in 2006 for a while, remember? While he likes being the center of attention, I doubt he will run again.
But do you think if he ran, would he have a chance? I wouldn’t completely discount it. A lot of people associate him with a more prosperous time and he could run on his record. On the other hand, it’s time to move on and forward.
I wonder if Tommy and Favre ever hang out together.
forgot, it was meant with irony, which never comes across well on the internet. I’m in agreement with you – this is all about Tommy seeing his name in the papers to stroke his ego.
As for whether he’d really have a chance, I think that would all depend on the kind of campaign he ran. If he ran a campaign that offered folks a chance to go back to the “good old days” when he was governor, then perhaps he could win some support, given how sour folks are about the way things are right now.
If he ran on his record, he’d have to explain the deficits that came due when he left town to work for Bush…
Zach, I didn’t know where you were coming from in your other post about Herb Kohl running. But I would agree with you here — a Herb vs. Tommy race would be very entertaining!
forgot, I think my including Sen. Kohl in that entry was misunderstood, because I wasn’t trying to imply that he’s a likely candidate; I was simply remarking on how entertaining it would be if he did enter the race.
Hmmm…Tommy is on Larry King Live with Elizabeth Edwards talking about Health Care Reform. Odd.
Tommy was just on TMJ4 news talking about how he had one more run in him. He doesn’t know what it is he wants to run for though… I don’t know why…but I am just dying to see him run for Governor.
(BTW…why did they bring up Van Hollen’s name in that story you linked to?? He can’t seriously be thinking of running too??)
