Gwen Moore has another challenger

It appears Rep. Gwen Moore has yet another challenger in the 2010 election. Samantha Carter joins service station owner Dan Sebring in the race to unseat Rep. Moore in 2010, and I’ll give her as much a chance of beating Rep. Moore as Dan Sebring has, which is to say she has no chance at all.

I read her website today…and she brings God into her message too much for my liking. I don’t want someone to preach to me…I want someone who will fix what is wrong and improve things. God really has nothing to do with it…IMO.

I want someone who will fix what is wrong and improve things.

To be perfectly honest, I’d be totally content with politicians who just don’t make things worse.

I totally understand reservations in regards to bringing God back into politics but I must reassure you that God never left. God is the basis of our constitution and all 50 states have God mention in their organizing state documents. I believe that our constitutional rights are God-given, and I want to fight for those constitutional rights to remain strong in integrity. I am not a person that believes that peace is always attainable there will be times we must go to war. I believe that we cannot help everyone but we should do our best to help all that we can. These basic beliefs are what I believe every person who is running the country should have. Our founding fathers felt that God was important enough to include in the formation of our country before outrageous taxes, careless wars and what we can even see an emerging a socialist society. I believe God has a lot to do with the improvement of our country…but if that is not enough I hope my ideas, bills that I have already written (unlike the incumbent in recent terms) and my education will make up for the gap. I want to answer all questions, comments and concerns that people may have. If I am going to be a representative I must know the consensus of the people who I will be representing. I truly appreciate all the comments here! Let’s make things better in 2010!

Samantha, I don’t talk religion with people unless they seek to bring it up with me or in general public. And since you do, and you seek to bring God “back” into politics as a central part of your platform, you’re going to need to be more specific than that. You can’t claim such a central role for God in your politics and then hope to get away with such vague generalities about “God”. You need to discuss all of the very important and fundamental things that define and differenciate the many varying views on God (hence all of the different religions in the world, many wars, and much bloodshed). So:

-What God(s), exactly, out of the many different Gods that billions of people on this Earth worship, do you believe in?
-Which prophets, exactly, do you believe in?
-Do you believe Jesus Christ was the one true Messiah, as Christians believe, or that he was merely a prophet as Jews and Muslims believe, or an enlightened Buddha as Buddhists believe?
-If so, do you believe Jews murdered Jesus and thus are destined to an afterlife in eternal hell?
    -If so, are you Catholic?
-If not, do you believe the Pope is a false idol, or worse – the antichrist?
-Do you put more emphasis on the New Testament, where, quite frankly, God sounds like a socialist…what with all his poor people loving, rich people hating, enemy forgiving, cheek turning glory?
-Or do you put more emphasis on the Old Testament, which tells me my wife is literally my slave, and that we should stone homosexuals to death?
-Was Jesus olive skinned as all of his Middle Eastern contemporaries, or was he pale skinned and blue eyed?
-Do you beleive the Rapture – and the Earth destroying holy war it will bring – will be a glorious day that we should seek to bring about as rapidly as possible?
-Do you believe the United States’ sole mission in being allied with Israel should be to secure our spot in the Holy Land for that Rapture?

If you want “God” to play such a central role in your political platform, these (and many, many others) are specific questions that will all need direct answers.

  • Greetings-

I would like to say thank you for expressing your concerns and suggestions. I completely understand your reservations and concern about being to vague when I speak on bringing God back into politics. You listed a plethora of great questions in your reply and I do want to answer them all.

First I am a Christian who believes in the triune God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe that the Holy Bible in its entirety is Holy Spirit inspired documents. With that being said I cannot began to go into all the misconceptions and or misunderstandings that occur between denomination and congregation. I will attempt to answer your questions in a way that will not leave room for religious debate, which will only take us further away from our main subject. I believe that God will forgive anyone who sincerely asks for it rather black, white, Jewish or Israeli, and you cannot reserve by force or monetarily a piece of holiness rather land or other. This forgiveness also includes homosexuality or heterosexuals that commit pre marital and post marital affairs.

I am totally against socialism nor do I believe God is a socialist. I believe God is very much responsible for our Constitutional rights. I believe in not judging anyone’s situation or circumstance because my judgment will be useless due to my finite knowledge in regards to who is going where in the afterlife. I live life with the hope of obtaining a better future not just for followers of the faith but all those the sun rises on daily.

I don’t believe that a wife is a slave rather a comforter and partner and a husband should treat his wife as extension of himself. Woman are to respect their husbands not be slaves to them in so much they have every freedom as men to do whatever they want as long as they are able to maintain their respect for their husband. The husband should then treat his wife as Christ treats the church and as an extension of himself, which to me means kind, gentle, loving, forgiving and selflessly.

I am not Roman Catholic but I will say we put people, places, things and even concepts as idols more than I like to think and I do not approve of any idol gods if you are a believer of Christ. Please understand if you don’t believe in Christ there is no way to violate this for it does not apply to that religion.

Now I believe the area of concentration we should deal with is politics seeing that is the specified destination listed in my platform. God’s role in our country is simple I think it is best said on our currency “in God we trust.” We must make decisions based on trust in God. If our congress would go back to the time where this was an absolute we may began to emulate that societies economy free of a deficit, a multitude of taxes and needless wars. Peace is currently not available so war may be a necessity at different points in our countries history but there is a difference in going into war based of the idea of man (which will hold a margin of error) and war trusting in God which will be a battle where victory is declared before the battle began.

Being an American gives you freedom to choose who or what you want to believe in and so does God. However, every American knows our country is rooted in Christian connotation. This is simply a fact considering almost every organizing document from federal to state has God in it. I also believe the fire of Americans is freedom and these freedoms should never be compromised or sold out.

I hope I answered every question in a manner that can at least leave you satisfied and my campaign and I will take your suggestion and began making revisions on our platform to narrow the scope on this issue. I hope in the future you will also trust me with your vote.

Thanks very much for taking the time to give an in-depth response, Samantha. Due to your platform I will not be voting for you, but I respect your right to your personal beliefs, and deeply respect your willingness to put yourself out there to stand for what you believe. Best of luck to you.

  • Yeah, it’s safe to say I won’t be voting for Samantha, but I appreciate her honesty.

    • Ms. Carter is not on the 2010 ballot. I do not know when she dropped out of the race, but she did not turn in any signatures. Kenneth Lipinski (R) and Dan Sebring (R), Eddie Ahmad Ayyash of the Coalition On Government Reform party will face Moore in the general.

I agree Zach. It is refreshing for a candidate to actually stand up for something and be able to articulate it.
