Lisa, Butler may not have won the State Supreme Court election, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a capable jurist; it simply means he’s not a great politician.

Should we also consider the fact the Western District is a trial court position and Justice Butler was previously elected to the analagous state court position, Branch 9, of the Milwaukee Circuit court, in a landslide?

Just so I understand your position:

The will of the people is ignored whenever a judge is nominated for a Federal judicial position whenever that judge did not win a prior election in a landslide?

That’s a pretty stringent standard.

Your argument ignores in the 44 counties making up the Western District, the federal jurisdiction, in which Justice Louis Butler was nominated, Justice Butler beat Gableman by a margin of 53% to 47%.

I think it is actually quite a disgrace that he was nominated. The people of Wisconsin voted against him twice. Does it not matter what the people think anymore? How arrogant can the Administration be to disregard what the voters wishes are and override them by nominating this person? I guess votes only matter when the Administration agrees.
Pretty sad commentary on what our future looks like.
