ABA PAC (Political Action Committee) represents banks. IBEW PAC represents unionized electrical workers. The first is representing big businesses, the 2nd is representing workers. While both are funding operations - 1 is for corporate donors, the other is for the people who work at big corporations.

Until we do get Campaign Financing that is so desperatly needed, our elected officials need to take money. In a perfect world they wouldn't need to take such campaign contributions from anyone, but they do. The donations are part of the equation. The other part of the equation is how do they reward the donors. In Paul Ryans case he takes donations from wall st and rewards them, which causes great harm to his district...

MadCityMan
I find it confusing that you believe that a PAC does not fall into the 'large corporate donors' pile. Without these lobbyists, it would essentially level the playing field for all candidates whether democrat, republican or independent. Individuals like McCain-Feingold have spent a great deal of time writing and passing legislation that tried to level the playing field for all candidates. Until we get rid of all large corporate donors and the PACs, the US will never be for the people and by the people, only for the corporations and PACs.

Hello Mike,
Thanks for your comments.

I suggest you do a bit of research before throwing out accusations. While my blogging is an unpaid hobby, based on my beliefs and desire to help influence opinions, I spend a fair amount of time researching topics before posting them. Given your assertions, I was curious about Gwen Moore's fund raising records, so I went to http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=N00026914 to see what I could find. Here's the results - she has raised 31% from individuals and 67% from PACs. So right there you have your facts wrong on the % from PACs. While the ABA is one of her donors, among her 5 largest donors are organizations representing unions, organizations that don't fall under the "large corporate donors" category.

Here's the list of her major donors:

Painters & Allied Trades Union $10,000
American Bankers Assn $5,000
Intl Brotherhood of Electrical Workers $5,000
Machinists/Aerospace Workers Union $5,000
National Auto Dealers Assn $5,000

Thanks again for your comments.

In your post you cite "protecting corporate donors". So what about Gwen Moore? Her campaign has raised almost 100% of her money from PACs and large corporate donors like the American Banking Association. You can't criticize one side for collecting from corporations and not chide the other.

did boehner read his own substitute offered as an amendment that he brought to the floor during the final debate? did anybody read it?

please, the whole "didn't read the bill" argument is as empty as they come. reading the bills is what you have a staff for. they read it, write up the summaries and brief you. unless you're a republican not named cao who simply does what the orange man tells you to do.
