Terrence Wall wants your money!
Have you heard? Terrence Wall is holding a fundraiser, and he wants you to be there! To have a little fun, I thought I’d take a minute (nothing more and nothing less) to dissect T. Wall’s fundraiser invitation, because there’s some things in it that really caught my eye.
Let’s start with the first line:
CONFIDENTIAL AND PRIVATE
The last email I got that was marked, “CONFIDENTIAL AND PRIVATE” was from a guy who told me he was a Nigerian prince who wanted my help obtaining his inheritance, so I’m not sure how much I should trust T. Wall with my money.
As the fundraising appeal continues, T. Wall talks about how he wants to elevate his campaign above “partisan bickering” (emphasis mine):
The Issues: We need to set aside the partisan bickering and focus on putting the people of Wisconsin back to work. Running a successful business means I understand how to make the hard choices required to create jobs, balance budgets and actually lower health care costs. We must get our country back on track so our children and grandchildren can enjoy the same opportunities that we all have had.
It’s ironic to read that Terrence Wall, who’s written some of the most highly partisan screeds I’ve read recently, talk about setting aside partisan bickering. After all, Terrence Wall has engaged in his fair share of partisan bomb-throwing, so if he really wanted to “set aside the partisan bickering,” he’d start with himself.
And finally Wall’s fundraising appeals ends with this nugget (emphasis mine):
P.S. Wisconsin voters want to get our country back on track. A recently completed scientific poll found that if the election were held today, voters would elect a “successful Wisconsin businessperson” over an 18-year incumbent by a 62 to 38 percent margin. That’s good news for us, and great news for this country. Please join us and consider making your contribution today.
It’s curious that there’s no mention of which reputable polling firm conducted the “scientific poll” or the size of the poll’s sample, or any other important points that could lend some credibility to the poll’s accuracy, beyond T. Wall’s assurances that it was a “scientific” poll.
While T. Wall might have a poll that shows voters would elect a random and nameless “successful Wisconsin businessperson” over a unspecified “18-year incumbent” by a margin of 62 to 38 percent, I can’t help but think T. Wall couldn’t quite come up with a poll that showed Terrence Wall beating Russ Feingold in 2010.

Untold benefits resembling those held by the late Defense Minister of the Outer Seecourtian Republic of Nemosistan will await your vocabulary by entrusting T-Wall with your credit card number!
Top notch as usual Zach. I’m assuming you signed up for emails from the Wall campaign. Keep the updates coming, I like being in the know without Wall knowing my email address.
I haven’t signed up for emails from his campaign because there’s no website from which to sign up to receive emails. I find it odd a U.S. Senate candidate can’t bother to set up a basic website, but whatever.
I didn’t figure out that you had linked to the email until it was pointed out to me. Maybe he’ll get a site up after his official announcement…in January.
Yeah, and until January we can stare at his 404-Not Found page. That’ll certainly tell us all we need to know about T. Wall!
And he’s locked up the farmer vote.
Damn it Zach. He’s blinded me with science.
Perhaps Terrence is confused about how science works.
That question is like asking which is better for baking: flour or glass bake wear?
They’re not even comparing the same thing.
The fact that he feels that poll actually means something is good news for Feingold supporters, and great news for this country.
AJ, Wall may be an astute businessman, but he’s clearly got a lot to learn about politics.
Maybe he’s using Bill Lorge’s pollster. Remember how he claimed, back in 2002, that a poll taken at a county fair somewhere up north showed he would beat McCallum in the Republican gubenatorial primary?
I’m guessing Terrence Wall’s “scientific poll” sample consisted of the staff at T. Wall Properties.
OJ, T. Wall strikes me as far more “scientific” than that. I’m betting he also polled folks at the RPW as well, so that he got a broad cross-section of conservatives.
