In Brief: Rep. Moore praised, unemployment higher in the south
- Rep. Gwen Moore (WI-4) was recognized yesterday for her work to to reauthorize the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA):
“Rep. Moore is a national leader in supporting policies and programs for domestic violence victims,” said Patti Seger, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WCADV). “FVPSA is the one piece of federal legislation that directly supports domestic violence shelters and programs across the nation.”
Domestic violence is still a big problem in the Fourth Congressional District, so it’s good to see Rep. Moore taking action to help address the issue.
- As noted by Democurmudgeon, the promise of lower business taxes and government handouts hasn’t resulted in a stable jobs climate in southern states, more than a few of which have unemployment rates higher than the national average. If you’d like to see an interactive map of unemployment rates for yourself, here it is.
- And finally, James Rowen of The Political Environment notes, “the notion that the overbuilt Hoan Bridge would be rebuilt as is…is foolish.” The Hoan Bridge isn’t getting any younger, and unlike wine, most bridges don’t typically age well. Sure, the Hoan may not need to be completely rebuilt in the immediate future, but spending hundreds of millions of dollars to redeck a bridge that will likely need to be rebuilt from the bottom up in less than two decades seems like a costly and short-sighted proposition.
