Walker: “Oops, I furloughed CO’s and deputies!”

Remember when Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker criticized Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett for imposing two furlough days on Milwaukee Police officers as part of Barrett’s most recent City of Milwaukee budget? I do, and that’s why I found it so amusing that Walker himself actually imposed eight unpaid furlough days on sheriff’s deputies and corrections officers through the use of his veto pen on the 2010 Milwaukee County budget. When asked about the furloughs for deputies and corrections officers, Walker said he didn’t mean to subject sheriff’s deputies and jailers to eight unpaid furlough days next year.

Asked to comment on Walker’s furlough flub, Mayor Barrett referred questions to Jeff Fleming, a spokesman for his campaign. Fleming was quoted as saying Walker was “so busy running for governor over the last five years, it appears he just wasn’t paying attention.” The result could be a budget deficit, Fleming said.

There’s no doubt Milwaukee County will be faced with a budget shortfall in 2010….after all, that seems to be par for the course since Scott Walker was first elected County Executive. I can’t remember the last time the County made it through a fiscal year without some manner of budget “crisis,” and I’m willing to bet 2010 won’t be any different.

    ….and it’s true!

  2. The god news is that Doyle is not running. Walkers screw-ups are eclipsed by an order of magnitude by the campaigner in chief.

Doyle is the epitome of ineptitude, but I’ve got to give him credit for managing to stay out of jail so far.

But, but walker did this, BFD…

    1. Terry, what does Jim Doyle have to do with Scott Walker’s decision to furlough sheriff’s deputies and corrections officers?

Further, you say Gov. Doyle has “managed” to stay out of jail, so what I’m wondering is what exactly he’s done to warrant jail time. What crimes has Gov. Doyle committed, Terry?

      1. Annoying isn’t it? Kinda like how some people answer every criticism of President Obama with a …but Bush did XYZ.
