Sykes, Wagner & Belling give Wall three enthusiastic thumbs down!

This was a big week for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terrence Wall. While formally kicking off his U.S. Senate campaign with a series of events that were closed to the public, Wall had to contend with with continued reports regarding the fact that he had not paid Wisconsin state income taxes for four of the past five years. Right-wing talk radio hosts Charlie Sykes, Jeff Wagner and Mark Belling all gave Wall’s private-event announcement tour a “thumbs-down:”

TMJ 620’s conservative talk show host Charlie Sykes conducted a blistering interview with Wall on Wednesday, commenting afterwards: “Not great reviews to the debut of Terrence Wall.”

Later in the show, Sykes and his conservative colleague Jeff Wagner, both agreed that Wall was “Not impressive.”

Over the last week, Wall has struggled with questions about the fact that he did not pay state income taxes in four of the last five years.

On Tuesday, Mark Belling, a right wing talk radio host on WISN 1130, said, “Very, very hard to run for the United States Senate when you haven’t paid income taxes in five years… How do you get to be a millionaire without paying any income taxes?”

Sykes asked Wall, “The reports that that you personally paid nothing in personal state income tax in four of the last five years. That’s going to be a problem, isn’t it?”

Wall responded, “I don’t think so.”

Sykes told Wagner, “Of course it’s going to be a problem,” and said, “You know, and the more you try to explain it, the more you’re essentially explaining that you live in a completely different fiscal environment than most of the working people of Wisconsin.”

It’s clear Terrence Wall isn’t going to win “Tea Party” conservatives to his cause, but the fact that Milwaukee’s right-wing squawk brigade isn’t impressed with Wall after just one week as an official U.S. Senate candidate can’t bode well for Wall’s chances of beating either Dave Westlake in the Republican primary or Sen. Russ Feingold in the general election.

Then again, all’s not lost for Terrence Wall, because I’m sure there’ll be another election for a spot on the Maple Bluff board of trustees in the not-too-distant future.
