Though I wasn’t alive when JFK ran for president, I’ve heard the anecdotes that many were concerned that JFK’s Catholicism would override his duty to uphold the Constitution, and that he’d taking his marching orders from the Vatican. Fast forward 50 years, and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terrence Wall seems to be perfectly content forming his views on policy issues based on what the Vatican tells him:

    If this were the case he would back both evolution (…there is no opposition between faith’s understanding of creation and the evidence of the empirical sciences) AND global warming (The scientific evidence for global warming and for humanity’s role in the increase of greenhouse gasses becomes ever more unimpeachable…).
