WI GOP Congressional Delegation Disrespects Military Service Voting Against DADT Repeal
The entire WI GOP congressional delegation (Ryan, Sensenbrenner, Petri) disrespected the service and lives of gay and lesbian military members who have died and the ~14,000 who have been forced out of service with their lemming-like vote against the repeal of DADT. The delegation did not see fit to follow the will of the American people where all polls indicate that a vast majority support open service by qualified gay and lesbian service members to their country. The polls also show a significant majority of the GOP to be against DADT. In their continuing quest to be the “party of no” and to represent their vocal minority of tea party, right wing constituents; our GOP representatives once again showed their true colors as being against basic civil liberties for all Americans.
I guess this shouldn’t be surprising given their records in terms of voting along Party lines. These 3 representatives have joined John Boehner and Eric Cantor in voting with the “Party of No” to this extent according to Open Congress:
- James Sensenbrenner – 93%
- Paul Ryan – 95%
- Tom Petri – 92%
I suspect that they and their staff have spent too much time watching and following the direction of organizations like the religious hate group American Family Association about Hitler being a homosexual surrounded by a vicious group of gay troops:
or the hate-filled Family Research Council which according to the Washington Monthly envisions the following if Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is repealed:
“first, more straight soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines will be fellated in their sleep against their will. Then, commanders afraid of being labeled homophobes will refuse to do anything about it. Eventually, the straight service members will quit out of fear.”
This quote made me think that Mr. Spriggs is a fellow acolyte of the George Rekers school that is hoping to have his bags handled in the middle of the night.

Are any of our right wing friends going to make the argument for DADT? It seems indefensible, but Ryan, Sensenbrenner and Petri are all voting for institutionalized discrimination.
Also, there are closeted gay soldiers now, I would like to hear a comment from FRC about the things they believe are happening now.
That we still have such obvious bigotry in this age is a reminder that we must always be vigilant to attacks on freedom. Whenever Republican relatives of mine try to make it seem like voting Republican is common sense, they always outright ignore the shadow of the bigoted elements of the party. When pressed one of them told me “not everyone always agrees.” Fundamental equality and freedoms are non-negotiable, and there is no defense for the theocrats at best and bigots that oppose equality.
Not ten years ago many in the Republican Party supported the Texan government being able to break into homes to police the bedroom, while at the same time saying governmental power should be limited. I guess those of the Republican party that oppose equality and civil rights only want limited government unless it comes to warring or invading the homes of their objects of hatred, and that they regard personal rights to your own body as nonexistent.
Thank you for not being politically correct. It is disgusting that groups of such hatred like the AFA or FRC hide behind fuzzy sounding terms like “family” when their prime goals are not just the opposition to expansion of rights for the people they hate, but also the outright attack on the rights of those they look down upon. It was disgusting years ago seeing that referendum pass that not only attacked same sex marriage and civil unions, but also went on the offensive against unmarried heterosexual couples, something their lovey-dovey disingenuous ads failed to mention.
I know there are Republicans and other fiscal conservatives that oppose bigotry, but as long as bigots have such power in the Republican party I will never vote Republican again. It makes me sick to my stomach that I ever voted for Paul Ryan.
