So yeah….about that Rasmussen poll

While the campaign of Republican U.S. Senate candidate is furiously spinning the results of the latest Rasmussen poll on the Wisconsin Senate race as a sure sign that Johnson’s got Sen. Russ Feingold on the ropes, I wouldn’t put too much stock in polling done by Rasmussen. I’ve previously noted Rasmussen’s decidedly Republican leanings when [...]

Creative Uses of Twitter – Madison & Milwaukee Governements

It’s nice to see the Democratic-leaning Milwaukee & Madison City Governments embracing Twitter as part of their constituent engagement strategies. [...]

What’s the matter with Texas? What’s the matter with the GOP?

The wingnuts of the Republican Party, this time in Texas, have done it again. Their latest, as endorsed in the state’s GOP Party platform, is to make it a felony to issue a marriage license to gays and lesbians to marry and to re-criminalize sodomy, a law that was found to be unconstitutional in the Lawrence vs. Texas case decided by the Supreme Court in 2003. For those of you not following constitutional laws or civil rights, this case found that there was a right to privacy that guaranteed gays and lesbians the same rights to private sexual intimacy as that held by the majority straight community (see Lambda Legal Defense for more information on the history of this law). Prior to the demise of this 143 year old law, gays in Texas could be jailed, for 5 – 15 years for the same act of sodomy, that was freely committed by their straight brethren in the privacy of their own homes. [...]

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ron Johnson thinks our government has been on a spending spree, and he’s made it clear that if he’s elected to the U.S. Senate, he’s going to work to cut government spending. There’s no mention of earmarks on Johnson’s website, so it’s not clear whether he supports the use of earmarks [...]

Feingold out of place financially in the Senate

In the United States Senate, a body populated by millionaires, Sen. Russ Feingold is out of his league, at least financially: The Middleton Democrat reported a net worth of $441,737 on his 2009 personal finance statement. On his 2009 federal tax statement, Feingold claimed $158,166 in adjusted gross income, derived primarily from his Senate salary. [...]

Dave Westlake thinks BP got shook down

Though the apology by Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) to BP over the $20 billion shakedown BP was subjected to at the hands of the Obama administration, was met with almost universal scorn by folks on both the left and the right, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave Westlake seems to agree with Rep. Barton’s assertion that [...]
