Scott Walker: Bad for Wisconsin

Here’s an ad I put together as my take on the recent ad run by the Republican Governor’s Association tying Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett to incumbent Gov. Jim Doyle:

  1. A little bit too Republican-sounding with the ominous music and video. But a strong idea, and I certainly know people that can lend a good voice to the ad if you need it.

I certainly think comparing Walker to Doyle is more than appropriate, as Walker is basically Doyle on steroids, especially when you consider how badly the City of Milwaukee was done in last budget (which is why this attempt to make “Barrett= Doyle’s 3rd Term” is extremely laughable to anyone that knows the real score).

  2. “how badly the City of Milwaukee was done in last budget” Jake

    CITY = Barrett
    County = Walker
    Barrett increased spending.
Walker cut budgets. County board vetoed his cuts.

  3. You don’t get to get away with a blatant falsehood like that, Marky. Spending has gone up in the County every year under Walker, and it ain’t because of the County’s Board veto overrides. It’s because Scotty believes in welfare from other levels of government, including heavy borrowing from the feds via the stimulus this year.

Bottom line- Since Walker and Barrett have headed up their respective governments (2005-2010 budgets) the increases are as follows:

Milwaukee County- Spending UP $272.25 million
City of Milwaukee- Spending UP $341.30 million.

Seems like a lot, except when you realize that $48.2 million of that increase for the City was due to the stock market tanking, and the need to keep pensions solvent for workers. Walker decided instead to gamble those pensions in the stock market some more. Take out the pension situation, and the increases are very close, and that’s with the City having a lot more to do with police, fire, and road-repair duties. We aren’t even going into the blowup of services and numerous negligence scandals that have happened under Scotty Boy.

And now this is where Doyle comes in- the City of Milwaukee and the County of Milwaukee gets aids from the state, the largest form of which is state shared revenue. Doyle and the Legislature has cut the City’s allotment by $2.4 million since 2005, while only cutting the County by $742,000. That’s NOMINAL (i.e. non-inflated) dollars. And unlike Tom Barrett, Scotty could make up that loss by an increase in sales tax revenue of $1.91 million. Diamond Jim hasn’t given the City that same flexilbility.

Bottom line- you don’t have a clue whereof you speak, and yes, the real Doyle third term would be Walker, as you KNOW he’d continue to screw over the City by cutting those shared revenues and continuing stupid unfunded state mandates on spending and raising money.

And I’m not going to let you get away with that. Did you give the shared revenue cuts without actually giving the actual amounts on purpose? Because that drastically changes the context.

In 2009, the city of Milwaukee received $230 million in shared revenue.
In 2009, Milwaukee County received $56 million in shared revenue.

So the city had a larger reduction in shared revenues – it’s still the biggest pig around at the state trough. And if memory serves, the city and county’s respective expenditures are actually quite close, so we’re roughly comparing apples to apples there.

  4. My name is Mark you disrespectful overgrown 12 year old. What is it with democrats showing disrespect by mispronouncing people’s names?

“We aren’t even going into the blowup of services and numerous negligence scandals that have happened under Scotty Boy.”

Please go into it and show proof. Show some citations for what you type. I have no reason to trust you.

  5. Just out of curiosity, Jake, what was my blatant falsehood?

Summarizing your statement — Barrett raised spending more than Walker and Barrett stuck more pension money up taxpayer’s butts than Walker. End of summary

As I recall, Barrett raised property taxes and a whole lot of fees.

  6. Stop clinging to the lies from Sykes and co. If you took 5 minutes to read source documents, you’d know that Scott Walker has proposed a spending increase in EVERY budget that he has submitted since 2005.

2005 Adopted Milwaukee Co. budget- $1,187,924,934
2006 Proposed budget submitted by Walker- $1,250,618,294 (+5.3%)
    2007 Proposed budget- $1,263,292,227 (+1.0%)
    2008 Proposed budget- $1,329,536,055 (+5.2%)
    2009 Proposed budget- $1,426,815,877 (+7.3%)
    2010 Proposed budget- $1,481,577,120 (+3.8%)

Extra bonus, the well-worn canard about Walker never proposing a property tax increase. THAT AIN’T TRUE!! Check out the line in the middle of the 1st page marked “levy” in this document, and realize that “2006 Co. Executive Recommended Budget” is $229.5 million, which last I checked, is $3.7 million more than the $225.8 million in the 2005 Adopted budget.

Because the real world is not Sykes World, you are not entitled to your own facts on these things.

Like most adolescents, you don’t seem to understand that respect is not given to people, it is EARNED. And when you talk out your backside, lie and deceive for an airheaded puppet like Scott Walker, I get annoyed, and you earn my DISrespect. I will therefore call you Marky until you deserve otherwise.

I will get to Scott Walker-Bush’s numerous management screw-ups shortly, but this’ll be sufficient for now.

    1. There it is! I was wondering how long it was going to take you pull Sykes out of your bag of tricks.

  7. And now, part Deux- Walker cock-ups.

The obvious one is understaffing and covering up of atrocities at the County Mental Health Center , including the retaining of the administrator who told a County panel that the occasional sexual assault was a “trade-off” to other outcomes. Oh, and there’s also the safety violations and unsanitary food service that state inspectors reported at the Mental Health Center last week.

Or the dreadful shape of the Milwaukee County Transit System, which continues to have services cut and fares increased despite an increasing share of state and federal support, with decreasing results. In fact, revenues this year are DOWN compared to 1st Quarter last year despite a fare increase, but Scotty insists on continuing in a losing direction…probably because he wants transit to fail the County’s citizens.

Or how about letting County Park maintenance slide to the point that it needs up to $200 million in deferred maintenance. Of course, this gave Scotty the excuse to lay off some park workers, and might mean that the County would have to sell some of the park land to other interests (I wonder to whom…..).

Or how about the “oops, I gave the sheriff’s Department 8 furloughs when I didn’t mean to” screw-up in this year’s budget?

And it took me all of 15 minutes to find this. Imagine what’ll be found as the pros dig deeper through the Summer…

  8. Jake, Locke already showed you to be deceitful, I was wondering about those numbers. Thanks Locke. You haven’t shown my “blatant falsehood” yet.

  9. Jake, in your first big post, you contrasted Barrett and Walker. In that (your) post, Barrett was worse. Your next two posts don’t speak of Barrett, just Walker. I guess you don’t want to keep pointing out Barrett is much worse.

  10. Also, Jake, I don’t care if YOU respect me. I just am really curious why democrats mispronounce people’s names to show disrespect. It is childish.
