  1. It’s hard to believe someone would stand up there and say those things. It reminds me of when someone once said to me that he doesn’t have any problems with gay people just as long as they keep “it” to themselves. They don’t want to see “it” out in public….etc. Some people just don’t get it and I don’t know why. What cause people to be so bigoted??

  2. Nothing causes people to be bigoted. Being a self-involved narcissist is something we all start as – as infants. It’s totally appropriate and cute when you’re a tiny little monster. But when you have 3 bedrooms, two baths, a couple of SUVs, a management job and some spawn of your own, thinking no one else is as real as you, and no one who is not JUST like you is walkin’ talkin’ shit, well that’s not really cute. It’s just warped and festering lack of human development.
You have to be “raised” out of it, educated out of it. Taught whether by rote or role model on how to evaluate things using something other than your basal Brain Stem. For “conspicuous conservatives” (there must be some that are just…conservative and not insane) there’s Me and Not Me. Not Me equals Left and Socialism.
Why else do “conservatives” HATE “education” and universities so much? It’s the Bad Place where you go and people tell you to SHARE with other kids. Oh Noes!!!
So really, in today’s vernacular “Socialism” is just the Boogie Man for people who are scared of allowing concern for others to enter into their own Thought Processes at ALL.
Others are Bad, they want my stuff, I know they do. I hate them, My Precious. Let them Burn
    😉

  3. the best way to end this is give these lunatics like paladino and kleefisch complete election drubbings

  4. Proud Progressive- BINGO! It only stops when we step up and make this a deal-breaker for candidates- if you are going to be bigoted against people, you can’t win. You’ll notice the GOP is trying to keep the gay-bashing on the down low in Wisconsin this election cycle (even though they do oppose domestic partnerships) because the 2006 gay marriage amendment drover young people out to the polls and allowed Doyle and the Dems to get bigger wins than what was expected.

I wish Barrett would be more forceful on gay rights, because the city of Milwaukee has allowed domestic partnerships for years, Barrett is very supportive of equal rights for all, and it is a winning position in 2010, as it gets young people motivated to vote. This “Dem-leaning socially conservative small town vote” that frequently gets played to is much smaller than those of us who demand equal rights for all, and why that calculus doesn’t play in political circles is beyond me.
