County Board Chair Holloway due in court for building code violations

Can you say, “slumlord?”

The violations were first issued in October 2009. The buildings have been reinspected every month since then. In cases where a problem has not been fixed, the complaint is held open.

City inspectors sent Holloway a letter this week telling him that he is due in Municipal Court on Jan. 27 to face penalties for building code violations at five properties.

Holloway has been cited for 116 violations ranging from rodent and roach infestation to loose window trim and moldy walls, according to city officials and inspection records.

Some of the violations have been fixed, Weiler said. But dozens have not.

This just shows what kind of person Lee Holloway is, and it’s a shame he keeps getting voted back into office, because he’s not a leader.

  1. I’m curious what the readers of Blogging Blue think what constitutes a “slumlord”? What kind of violations are the worst? I have been looking into someone who rented an apartment out to my daughter…and after I went to look at it I refused to let her move into it because I felt it was unsafe. I compared Holloway’s violations with this landlord my daughter rented from and they are similar…without the rat problems. I also wonder how landlords can rent out apartments that are unfit for people to live in them??

      1. It’s incredible that these slumlords get away with renting to people. I think once there is a serious safety violation the people who do the inspecting (not sure which city department does that) should post a notice to vacate. I think the slumlords should be held responsible (legally) for the renters moving costs. The man who owns the property my daughter rented but didn’t move into owns a business that made over 40 million last year…and he can’t even provide smoke detectors for his tenants. WTH?? I have to get over to the property and take some pictures. Maybe the JSonline would like to feature this greedy uncaring bastard sometime.

    1. Thanks timjohn…but my point is…why don’t they shut these places down until the landlords (or slumlords) comply with the laws…like they would do with other business? It doesn’t seem right that the slumlords can make money off of people when they aren’t complying with the laws.

  2. The new “free market” means that you can donate enough to the right politicians and you do not have to comply with the laws.

  3. THE BIGGEST SLUM LORD IN MILWAUKEE IS THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE ITSELF !
IT HAS MANY PROPERTIES THAT IT HAS AQUIRED AND HAS DONE NOTHING WITH THEM, EXCEPT BOARDING
THEM UP ! THESE PROPERTIES THEN IN MANY CASES BECOME VANDILIZED TO THE POINT THAT THEY
DECIDE TO TEAR THEM DOWN TO THE GROUND ! ALL OF THE CITY OWNED HOMES SHOULD BE OFFERED
FOR SALE IMEDIATLY AS SOON AS THEY GET THEM !!! PLAYING BACK ROOM LET’S MAKE A DEAL IS
WRONG ! MANY PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO OWN A HOME, BUT THE CITY DOES NOT ALLOW THE FREE MARKET
TO BUY THEM AND EXERCISE IT’S WILL ! THERE SHOULD BE A LAW THAT ALL CITY PROPERTIES BE
PLACED ON THE OPEN MARKET WITHIN OF NINETY DAYS OF PROCUREMENT BY THE CITY !!!
CAN’T OUR DUMB ASS MAYOR SEE HOW MUCH IT COST TO HAVE THE CITY CUTT GRASS AND SHOVEL SNOW
ON THESE HOMES, WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO WOULD BUY THEM ! BOB BITTERSof MILWAUKEE
