Hello, folks! I just want to introduce myself – my name is Jeffrey and I was invited by Zach to do some occasional writing here. I am a Milwaukee native, a sociologist, and am currently working with recent start-up Community Action Now on some critical social problems, so you can expect to see a little about that every now and then.
As my first order of Blogging Blue business, I would like to call your attention to the fact the the Motherload of data on the American population is being released today! I’m talking, of course, about the 2010 Census count. Parts of the Census data have come to light recently, as shown in MadCityMan’s excellent post, but this is the first glimpse we’ll get at the final official count. Data geeks rejoice!
Oh, and happy holidays everyone!

Welcome…and Happy Holidays to you too!
I will echo Anon. Welcome! Glad to see more good posters (that is, people who post) on here.
I took a look at the excellent NYTimes census results site, and loved zooming around the area seeing who lives where. And I pretty quickly clame to the conclusion that yep, it’s awfully segregated. Generally speaking, the north side is preponderantly black people, while the south side is heavily Hispanic. That is a generalization, and thus inherently full of flaws, but at the same time, it’s true, at least within the City of Milwaukee. While we didn’t have Jim Crow, our de facto segregation is alive to this day. There is nothing within that to be proud of.
Happy Holidays? Sounds like the War on Christmas to me.
Oh, and welcome.
Yeah, apparently we’re all supposed to hate Christmas, since we’re liberals.
Thanks all!
Jason, yep, and I blame “white flight.”
Jim, Christmas is doing it all to itself. I present exhibit A: this comic. JESUS. FRUITCAKE. CHRIST.
I like twenty-something-no-kid-Christmas
Welcome Jeffrey
