Bass Pro does not build on wetlands…

Scott Walker will build anywhere. Bass Pro Shops recently considered expanding into the Green Bay market. The problem is, the land that developer John Bergstrom tried to sell them is a wetlands.

Luckily the Wisconsin Wetlands Association stepped in. The “open for business” Wisconsin state legislature immediately went to work in passing a bill that would allow Bergstrom to save his deal and allow Bass Pro to build on these wetlands.

Bass pro, being an outdoor retailer, quickly said “thanks but no thanks”.

Walker and the republican legislature definitely sent some messages here, unfortunately it was not that WI is open for business. The message that they sent was come to Wisconsin, we will do no research on any laws or your company, but we will give you whatever you need. We write the laws so we can break them.!

PS:
Shame on you Sen. Robert Cowles (R-Allouez):

Sen. Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) said he recently toured the property.

“This is no wetland. I walked the site and I thought, ‘This whole hubbub is about this site?’ Come on!” Cowles said.

  1. A WETLAND? Please the area is a man made drainage ditch from HWY 41…..the only time its wet is when we get some rain otherwise its just a dried out piece of land that does nothing but collect trash that blows around from near by business. WIS Wetland Assoc. just some more environmental whackos who are clueless. Anyone who lives up here knows it but of course the anti business people on Madison had to stick their nose into something that does not concern them.

PP have you ever seen that area up here? maybe it should be said SHAME on you for talking about something you know NOTHING about.

    1. Honestly, it’s in Bass Pro Shop’s way that they wouldn’t touch the area. If they really so desired that spot in particular they would have took it. But they actually care for the environment since this is what they get their business from. It was no evil nutjob Liberals or anything – this is how specifically the retailer works. They are actually known to revive wetlands.

It wasn’t no magical environmental wackos, it’s how they’re run period. And Scott Walker with the Republicans and telling them to come back is unclassy when they specifically don’t work that way.

  2. Well here’s the thing Notalib,

There is a process for complaints. If it’s not actually a wetland, let it go through the process, and it’ll be ruled not a wetland. This hubub over this is less about wetlands and more about high profile people buying access to our legislators and governor.

We can all agree that that’s bad, right?

    1. It’s only bad if the high profile people buying access to our legislators and governor happen to be buying access to Democrats. If the legislators and governor happen to be Republicans, then Notalib is A-Okay with it.

  3. All that is needi si a few trucloads of sand and dirt to fill it in a BAM so called wetland is history and the corner can be used for something that is benefical. Its just stupid that we allow a few tree hugging whack jobs in Madison to control something they are cluesless too.

    1. Have you even read what I said? It was the choice of the company and how they run. Read up and study about them instead of crying about it. The Bass Pro Shop is gone because they don’t work that way, some other business can come along and probably take up that place you’re baaaaawing about again.

  4. Everything was on track to bring jobs to Green Bay untila a little whiney Democrat in Madison sent a letter to the compnay. This whole thing was done as a politcal ploy by the whinebaby librals in Madison, I understand the company is enviromental aware but once again the property they would have located on is not a wetlands and the tree hugging fruitcakes once again put jobs over mosquitos. T your from GB I believe have you ever been over there can you honestly say that it is a valuable WETLAND?

    1. I’ve seen it – honestly? I think if the Bass Pro Shop was put there, I think they should do it next to it and revive it like they usually do. Unfortunately, it would cover it and likely destroy it, which is a big no no in their whole code of ethics in general and could cause a huge backlash against their whole image. They’re known to protect and give back to the environment. It wasn’t a matter of liberals of whining, sure the environmentalists pointed it out – then they themselves saw the wetland and went “Nope.”

This isn’t an issue if I think it’s useful or not.. But it’s the issue is that they themselves did not want to do it. You and I both know if the Bass Pro Shop REALLY wanted to do it, would have just went and kicked aside the environmentalists exactly like how other people kick aside the historians who want to preserve our buildings in our city.
