The tea party did not get the memo that Hate is so last election and not a winning election issue anymore. In the last election hatred of muslims worked, especially in Oklahoma.
Now that the initial stages of the Republican Presidential Primary has started, they are bringing out the old trump card of hate. Recently Republican Representative Peter King, convened convened hearings designed to drum up fear and hatred of muslims. All he was successful at was stoking the fire of islamophobia(lots of phobias in the right), and showing everyone what a great representative Keith Ellison is.
Recently, the fear was on display at Conservative Principles(sorry for the oxymoron) Conference in Iowa, where Herman cain won the presidential straw poll. Here is his winning speech, where he is asked whether he would be willing to appoint a Muslim as a Cabinet officer or judge(not that there is a high probability of that happening).
“No. I will not,” he said. “And here’s why: There’s this creeping attempt — there’s this attempt to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government.” According to Cain, many American Muslims “are trying to force their Sharia law onto the rest of us.”
