Looks like Zerban is working with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. A democrat who’s not afraid of the word progressive! Holy shit! Where do we find one of those in the 7th CD?
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee does not hold a monopoly on the meaning of the word “progressive.”
From the supportive tone of this press release, I’d say the official position of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin supports Zerban’s enterprising position.
WH,
That’s good news.
And I’d like to clarify that we have some solid progressive democrats in the assembly and state senate from within the 7th CD, and I hope we’ll have one running against Duffy as well.
Out of curiosity, how do you define the meaning of the word progressive?
From Webster’s, I use the definition “making use of or interested in new ideas, findings, or opportunities.”
Progressive, in common usage, is a broad term. Such flexibility is easily used to conflate ill-defined political movements with popular candidates.
Zerban’s signature-collecting behavior seems to more closely be describd as enterprising – “marked by an independent energetic spirit and by readiness to act.”
WH,
I was thinking more along the lines of Bob La Follette and the Progressive Party. For example, I would argue that no true political progressive would ever join a K-street lobbying firm upon retirement, though I suppose that could be construed as enterprising.
Steve,
+1 Informative, thanks.
Robert La Follette: “His support for progressive reforms, rousing oratory, and frequent clashes with party leaders earned him the nickname “Fighting Bob.”
I do consider “Fighting Bob” to be a characterization of Progressive ideology.
Back to the matter at hand, it looks like Zerban is doing more than holding Ryan accountable. Looks like he’s got him on the ropes.
