“Are Our Schools Crushing Creativity?”

Watch as comedian Lee Camp asks the question, “Are our schools crushing creativity?”

As the parent of two kids, each of whom attend schools in different districts, I’ve seen the good and the bad of both districts, and I do believe too much emphasis is placed on “teaching to the test” to boost standardized test scores at the expense of encouraging creativity in students.

As school districts continue to facing gaping budget deficits thanks to the deep cuts to state education aid by Gov. Scott Walker and Republicans in the legislature, they’ll no doubt look to close those budget deficits by not only going after pay and benefits for teachers and support staff, but also by cutting “non-essential” programs like band, orchestra, art, etc., only serving to heighten the lack of creativity in our young people.
