“Segway” Jeremy Ryan wrongly blames Peter Barca for “injuries” sustained by protesters resisting arrest

During the lone day of work in the State Assembly this month, Democratic State Rep. Mark Radcliffe proposed a motion suspending the Assembly’s rules to allow individuals sitting in the gallery to videotape proceedings in the Assembly so long as they do so quietly. While Radcliffe presented his argument in favor of the motion with passion, Democratic Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca responded by noting that the best place to bring about a more lasting change in the Assembly’s rules to allow individuals in the gallery to silently videotape the Assembly’s proceedings was a meeting of the Rules Committee.

Here’s some footage of the exchange.

It’s worth noting that despite his stated opposition to Rep. Radcliffe’s motion to suspend the Assembly’s rules regarding videotaping of the proceedings, Rep. Barca did vote in favor of the motion.

However, despite the fact that Peter Barca voted in favor of the motion to suspend the rules to allow individuals in the gallery of the Assembly to sit silently and videotape the proceedings, “Segway” Jeremy Ryan saw fit to blame Rep. Barca for the injuries sustained by Ryan and other protesters after they resisted arrest and refused to walk under their own power after being handcuffed by authorities.

Here’s a screenshot of Jeremy Ryan’s Facebook status update blaming Peter Barca for the injuries protesters sustained as a result of resisting arrest.

Maybe it’s because of what I do for a living but if you refuse to walk for yourself when you’re being arrested, then you shouldn’t complain about injuries when police are forced to carry you, nor should you blame anyone but yourself.

  1. Yes Jeremy Ryan is acting as ridiculous as many of the elected Republicans he just does not have the cover of a gerrymandered “safe”district to hide behind.

  2. I just wonder why a blog that claims to cover this issues wastes so much time on one person. The fact is that it is obvious Zach has a personal problem with me from his writing and comments. This is an opinion blog, thanks for at least being transparent about it. But I will continue getting beat by police to protect your rights as you shit on my work. Because what you don’t realized is that when you write articles like this and inject negative opinion towards someone who does far more action in the movement than you, you just ruin credibility. I didn’t blame Peter, I asked for an explanation as to why it was OK to ignore the constitution even for a few minutes. But continue your anti-Jeremy Ryan blog, I’ll continue my work, and I will continue to have more people that actually follow as my blog isn’t full of insults towards the people who actually fight for everyones rights! You can serve the “niche” Jeremy Ryan hating market. And you will have the same fate the Clergy had in the MLK days. You will look utterly inaccurate in the end. But feel free.

    1. Can you give a reasonable explanation as to why people should donate to your “cause”, when it has been explained to me from a couple of different sources that you use the money to support yourself? Being an activist is a great thing, but I don’t believe I should be monetarily rewarded for my activities—which is why I work for wages. Like most people. I’m having difficulty trusting your integrity when you are soliciting monies for your own upkeep.

    2. I will continue getting beat by police

      Beaten?

      Comparing yourself to MLK?

Your delusions of grandeur are worse than I thought.

      Grow up, child.

      1. I don’t recall seeing any beatings by police towards Jeremy or anyone else. What I did see is a group of people refusing to walk under their own power, forcing the police to carry them.

    3. How many times did Jeremy say “I” or “Jeremy Ryan” in that rant?

In nine sentences, Jeremy said “I” or “Jeremy Ryan” seven times.

Oh, and I’d like to point out that I’m not ruining credibility; you are. If you think your stunts are winning hearts and minds here in Wisconsin, then you’re delusional. While I get why you’re fighting, this isn’t a fight that can be won without getting the majority of Wisconsinites behind us, a fact that seems completely and utterly lost on you.

As for my “action in the movement,” I’ve been fighting for labor since you were 10 years old, so don’t even presume to lecture me about “action in the movement.” Unlike you, me and my family are living the effects of Gov. Walker’s attacks on public employees every day.

Unlike you, I work hard to pay my bills, only to see my take-home pay shrink, forcing my family to start making some very difficult choices.

Unlike you, I can’t simply rely on the charity of others to subsidize my lifestyle because I don’t want to work, because I have a family to help take care of.

And unlike you, I’m more interested in winning this fight than I am in increasing my public profile.

    4. Oh, and just so we’re clear, your boycott of Blogging Blue has clearly been an EPIC FAIL, based on the fact that you’re here commenting and traffic is as good as it’s ever been.

      Thanks for playing!

    5. The problem, Mr. Ryan, is that you have tried as hard as one can to embody a fight and personalize it. You seem desperate to garner as much attention as you can. When you perform for the spotlight you are going to be subject to criticism by those who are actually affected by your actions. When you write poorly thought out, poorly edited and inane letters demanding the police cease and desist following their lawful orders and issue personal threats against the Chief of Police with poorly constructed legal arguments you undermine not only your own credibility but the entire battle. Your intent may not be to alienate the rest of Wisconsin but it seems to be what you are achieving. We’ve only met one time Sir, but I am asking as one of the people affected by the Walker legislation that you take a more thoughtful and intelligent approach to the fight.

    6. Jeremy, I have seen any number of your ‘home movies’ where you goad the opposition into reacting to you. That isn’t protecting my rights, that’s creating a hostile environment that makes it harder for the rest of us.

And if you are going to beard authority, you have to take your lumps. Yes, to protect rights you have to exercise them, but you have to take the consequences in the meantime. You aren’t going to get your rights by whining that they are being abridged when you act…you have to take the arrest and follow it to court.

I can’t believe how utterly full of yourself you seem to be…and the MLK comparison? Talk about over reaching…

and so much for boycotts…maybe try a hunger strike next…btw: they are economically viable (sarcasm intended).

  3. Jeremy- You aren’t special, dude. You just have more time on your hands. We appreciate that you on the right side of this thing, but you seem to think it’s important that you and your Segway be seen by as many people as possible, instead of being just another member of a group (you know, like how most of us have been through this whole thing?)

In fact, you seem to have the same whiny, crucifixion complex that the GOPs seem to have, and it’s completely weak sauce. Get over yourself.

  4. It looks like the rattlesnakes are starting to bite each other. Be assured, normal people nationwide, i.e. Conservatives, are endlessly amused by the childish games played by the left to try and turn back the overwhelming tide of family values and morals engendered by the shellacking that lefties took in the 2010 elections, the Prosser campaign, and the recalls. What you overlook is the fundamental premise that none of you are taken seriously. Ryan is just part and parcel of the bucket beating, horn blowing mob of morons that enlivened what is generally considered the dullest part of the year, late winter in WI. By all means, continue to entertain us with your antics, but don’t be deluded into thinking that you will ever affect any change. The majority has spoken. Go home, take a bath, and get a job. When you look more like mainstream America, perhaps we can take you seriously.

    1. “What you overlook is the fundamental premise that none of you are taken seriously.”

Quite the contrary…you have taken the time to visit this site, read the posts and comments and so far replied at least 3 times…you are taking us quite seriously.

      1. On the contrary, I do this for my own amusement. I read dozens of blogs, columns, and news sites daily. What I don’t do is take MYSELF so seriously that I believe I can affect others with talk. Benjamin Franklin once said “To remain silent when one should speak out, makes cowards of men. ” I speak out, because I am not cowardly, but I have no delusions that I will ever have any common ground with teachers that close down schools because they don’t get their way, or police that allow vandals to break into the capitol thru windows, and stand by. Those people are the cowards. What I enjoy is thoughtful commentary, whatever the perspective, but I won’t hesitate to contribute the truth, when people who purport to support the 1st. Amendment try to suppress it, with obscenity and name calling.

        1. Clemster, you’ve shown up here and done nothing but call anybody and everybody names. See the debate you’ve had with yourself on the topic I clipped below.

To which I can add one more:

          Those people are the cowards.

If you’re looking for a calm, rational debate, you’ve shown up to the right place, because that’s welcomed here. But if you show up and post comment after comment filled with name calling conjecture…well…you’re not being the person you claim to aspire to be. Fight your own personal demons on your own time.

  5. Ryan is just part and parcel of the bucket beating, horn blowing mob of morons that enlivened what is generally considered the dullest part of the year

Good to know that you think cops, firefighters, teachers, corrections officers, snowplow drivers, etc. are morons.

    1. It has been shown time and time again that the vast majority of protestors were 1. professional agitators brought in from out of state by the unions to pretend to represent public sector employees. 2. Students, who would do anything to disrupt the establishment. 3. Misguided entitlement junkies who were perfectly willing to abandon their posts to defend an indefensible shakedown of the taxpayers, which has gone on for decades. I do not canonize any profession. Cops, firefighters, teachers, corrections officers, and snowplow drivers, are paid exceptional wages and benefits, not because they are exceptional, but because they have had taxpayers in a stranglehold. Your day is over. The good guys won. All across WI, we are reaping the benefits of the Walker agenda. You might as well support an anti glacier protest, for all of the substance that the protests produced. Now that the unions are irrelevant, I am already seeing a weakening of the resolve on the left. In the clear light of day, the future will depend on a return to traditional Conservative values, not the misguided “me first” orgy that put us in this mess to begin with.

      1. Love your family values and morals, Clemster.

Booing a gay soldier who’s served in Iraq, cheering executions in Texas when it’s almost certain that at least one innocent man was killed, and howling with glee at the prospect of an uninsured man in a coma left to die.

What a bunch of fucking barbarians.

        1. You really should read more than just the liberal playbook. Every one of those incidents was taken out of context, and used as propaganda to make Conservatives look bad. The very idea that you resort to obscenities and name calling illustrates how weak your moral compass is. I frankly am not personally offended by any opinions I read in any venue, even if they are opposite of what I know is the truth. But then, I have the strength of my convictions, Conservative values that have stood the test of time. Your convictions, apparently, drive you to lashing out on a personal level. Perhaps if you embraced sound moral values, you too could feel this strength.

          1. How was anything taken out of context, Clemster. Can you get a bit more specific?

The crowds at those debates were bone ugly. And there wasn’t a single GOP presidential candidate with the balls to call them out right then and there.

What a bunch of fucking barbarians.

            1. Steve- Great point about how not one GOP will call out the disgraceful acts of their supporters. And Walker reflects this act as well, as he and the Ftizes could go public and rebuke the disgarceful acts of righties in New Berlin and Burlington for hassling and denigrating teachers. Or the gutless b@stard that threatened public employees in an open letter earlier this week.

But they don’t say a word, which indicates they think that those people are OK. That silence is deafening and a crystal clear dog whistle.

          2. The very idea that you resort to obscenities and name calling illustrates how weak your moral compass is.

Ryan is just part and parcel of the bucket beating, horn blowing mob of morons

[teachers, police and firefighters are] misguided entitlement junkies

looks like the rattlesnakes are starting to bite each other.

illustrates how weak your moral compass is.

This post brought to you entirely by Clemster.

      2. Where has it been shown “time and time again” that the vast majority of protesters were professional agitators brought in from out of state?

Oh, and I’m glad to hear that in addition to thinking cops and firefighters are morons you also think the work they do isn’t exceptional. Personally, I find anyone who’d run into a burning building to be exceptional, but apparently you have a different definition of exceptional.

Let me ask you….do you think the cops and firefighters who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01 were unexceptional morons as well?

You think that the left took a shellacking in the Prosser campaign and recalls, and then say the republicans are the family value party and talk about being taken seriously? Isnt that ironic?

    1. Frankly, I can’t see anything ironic in any of the values I hold. Family values by definition are Conservative, the ability to defer one’s own impulses for the greater good of the group. What greater good does it serve to allow public sector unions to bankrupt schools, municipalities, and states, in order that a small percentage of employees can live large at the taxpayer’s expense? Liberals live a life of anything goes, and the devil take the hindmost. It is that sort of hedonism that has brought this nation into bankruptcy. The party is over. Cooler heads, and smarter heads, have prevailed. Now we go about the work of cleaning up your messes.

      1. “Frankly, I can’t see anything ironic in any of the values I hold.”

Of course not…belief systems don’t permit much room for thought or consideration.

      2. Family values….like the family values of thrice-divorce Newt Gingrich?

Or are those the family values of Sen. David Vitter, who utilized prostitutes during his time in Washington D.C.?

      3. Clemster- Projection is not your friend, and family values to me means teaching respect and common decency for your fellow man by building strong communities. It does not equate to demonizing, division and the rewarding of greed.

Bottom line- you’re just a selfish little windbag trying to justify your lame life. And failing miserably at it, I might add. And of course, you don’t see anything ironic, because tightie righties don’t recognize irony or self-reflection. Which is why we laugh at you dingbats constantly.

      4. You wouldn’t know a value if it jumped out and bit you on the behind. Nor do you understand virtue, truth, honesty, integrity, and charity. You understand nothing. You are devoid of all humanity. Bye bye now. If we want messages from psychopaths, we’ll visit penitentiaries.
