Waukesha Democrats to Challenge Kathy Nickolaus

At the monthly Waukesha Democratic Party meeting last night, a candidate declared for the office of County Clerk of Waukesha County.  This was welcomed by all in the room with a rousing cheer and big celebration.

Her name is Jessie Read and she is a long-time resident of Waukesha County.  A bookeeper by training and trade, Jessie brings a wealth of experience to the challenge.  And it appears that, due to her egregious incompetence, even the Waukesha GOP will be forced to primary Ms. Nickolaus in order to extricate her from the Clerk’s office.

For those who don’t remember, Kathy Nickolaus is the bumbling County Clerk who lost votes in her personal (not county) computer and then “found” them again in the hotly contested Supreme Court race this past April.  While cleared of criminal wrongdoing, she was never cleared of incompetence.

  1. I don’t understand why someone running against her as a dem is news – glad a qualified candidate stepped forward, BUT…

As important as this is, what would have really been news is if no credible democratic candidate came forward.

Please don’t misinterpret , misconstrue, or flame my support for your work like some of the other regular posters here do with comments that actually support their posts.

    1. No asbestos suit required, BB. 🙂

I guess it’s news because we have a name now and that it was announced publicly for the first time last night. And the sense of relief in the room was palpable. You have to understand that we in Waukesha have lived with this electoral fraud machine for years now. We finally have the chance to knock this incompetent idiot out of office. And it’s so bad that the TeaOP is going to have to primary her to get rid of her. I hope the TeaOP voters double-down on her stupid and send her on to the general election. That we will win!

But you’re right in that had the Dems not put forward a candidate, that would indeed be news. 🙂

      1. Electorial FRAUD machine? Really? I realize that you are a sore loser, but where is, oh say, PROOF?

        1. What business did she have routing the vote through a personal computer. Why does even the clerk have access to a simple file that can be changed?

        2. Whether you like it or not, Waukesha County is the other side of the coin to Milwaukee County politics. Anyone with half a brain knows that. They both loaded with corruption, the difference is Waukesha County has the airwaves in it’s favor.

      2. I wonder why the GOP insists on a Voter ID Law if there ins’t any voter fraud. Maybe they just want to suppress minority voters….

        1. “What? WHAT? TeaOP suppressing minority, disabled, homeless and veteran voters? Surely you jest!”

“No, I’m serious. And stop calling me Shirley!”

        2. Wasn’t most voter fraud in the first place that took place in Wisconsin from old people who were just confused? (They sent in one vote earlier, forgot they sent it and went in to vote on election day.)

Because that’s what I remember reading happening, mostly faulty memory. Not black /hispanic/natives/asians/college students walking in large groups to vote in every part in the city to vote multiple times.

  2. If your read the GAB report, there was proof. But being buddies and all, the GAB concluded that it was “not willful”.

“Based upon an extensive independent investigation into the actions of Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus after the Spring Election, the Government Accountability Board found probable cause to believe that she violated the state law requiring county clerks to post all returns on Election Night, but concluded that the violation was not willful and therefore did not constitute criminal misconduct.'”

Basically, if she does it again, she’s toast.

    1. C J McD what gives you the idea that KN would be toast if she did this again? It is my understanding that she had previously been given immunity from prosecution in a political case. Immunity from prosecution the way I understand it means the person committed a crime but is not prosecuted because they turn on others involved. This woman was also requested to allow the county to audit her computer & the software, she refused, this was prior to the November 2010 elections. There are many lingering questions about the software that is purported to have been provided to her alone differing from other election clerks in the state of WI. KN previously worked with the judge who won the race due to her found votes. The recounts showed that there were problems with the chain of custody, open ballot bags and other anomalies. During the recall elections the Election Defense Alliance was prevented from setting up exit polling until noon in Waukesha. I don’t know how many more red flags people need to say there is something very wrong here and I have no idea what would raise this to the level of a criminal offense if all of these facts have not. We should have laws that automatically kick in when problems such as these happen in our election systems. At a minimum election laws should force the removal of a clerk overseeing our elections with these types of discrepancies. Whether intentional or unintentional there should be consequences for the failure assure that all votes are counted and all processes put in place to assure free and fair elections are followed. The vote is the key to democracy & if the person who is elected to protect this most important right of the citizens of our country can not do the job sufficiently they should be removed. Somethings in life are too important to allow people to screw up more than once. In my opinion oversight of elections is one of them.

  3. A correction that should be noted in the blog post:

When the reference was made to “personal computer” it was referring to a PC in the Microsoft sense, as opposed to a Mac. The county owned the computer. That’s a piece of misinformation that needs correcting.

    1. If we do not want any more found ballots we need hand counted paper ballots now. Not only in WI but all across the United States.
