Cornered Elephants [UPDATED: Now with GOP SPIN!]

Their world is coming apart and there’s nothing they can do about it.  Lashing out is all they have left.

UPDATE: There’s a bit of spin this morning on Patch from the Racine GOP.  They have, as expected, denied the incident ever happened and if it did, it’s the victim’s fault.

Bill Folk [the Chairman of the Racine GOP]  issued the following statement, “I find Gallaher’s comments outrageous. I know the person in question snapped a few photos, which I have seen and we know for a fact that the recallers took at least 4 photos.  It is clear from the photos that the person is not in the parking lot…never entered the parking lot so how is it that he “ran through the parking lot” and “almost back(ed) over a retired police officer”…was the retired officer in the road way?!?

“It’s time for the recallers to stop fabricating facts about the pro-Walker movement and get on with trying trying to overturn the will of the people of Wisconsin.”

Reports are coming, initially from the unstoppable Root River Siren,  that a Racine Republican Party operative attempted to run down a recall signature gatherer.

From an e-mail in the possession of your humble blogger:

The cop [the driver attempted to strike with his car] was smart and took pictures of the guy’s car and the Siren put it up and within two hours we had confirmation the driver was the Racine County Republican Treasurer, Tom Bode. A police report was filed yesterday….

Like the animals we always knew them to be, these elephants are lashing out now that we have them cornered.  I expect to hear about the dismissal of Mr. Bode forthwith.

  1. I don’t think we should be calling republicans animals. My parents are republicans. So are my sister and brother-in-law. They’re unsophisticated and ignorant of political matters, but they’re not animals.

That said, there are plenty of republicans that are assholes, some of them serious assholes, and there appears to be an increasing number who are just plain crazy. But they’re people, not animals.

    Just sayin’.

    1. 1) I believe Phil was being metaphorical.

      2) I know many Republicans as well. They are all animals.

      3) All humans are animals.

      4) As our pal Steve Carlson would say, harden the f%#k up! 😮

      1. As I said in an e-mail today as to why I’m not a member of the Democratic Party, the Democrats play croquet while the Republicans are playing ROLLERBALL. Time to get in the game. No more namby-pamby bullshit. 🙂

  2. Tom Bode isn’t just a “Racine Republican Party operative;” he’s a member of the Racine Republican Party’s leadership.

I hope he faces some type of legal sanction for what he did, because that kind of behavior is completely unacceptable.

    1. It seems that Folk was not the driver.

I wonder when or if the driver’s name will be released.

“It’s time for the recallers to stop fabricating facts about the pro-Walker movement and get on with trying trying to overturn the will of the people of Wisconsin.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Local efforts to gather enough signatures to trigger a recall of Gov. Scott Walker have been met with anger and allegations from both the Democrats and Republicans, according to a story by the Racine Journal Times.

But one confrontation became particularly heated, which involved an unnamed Racine County Republican Party member and Tom Simons, a retired Caledonia Police detective, according to Kelly Gallaher, a community organizer for Community for Change.

On Saturday, several people collecting signatures for the recall were parked in the All Sports parking lot, located at 3458 Rapids Drive, when a man driving a Lexus drove into the parking lot and almost struck Simons, Gallaher said.

Bill Folk, chairman of the Republican Party of Racine County, said the member of the Republican Party, who did not want to be named, admitted that he had “probably taken things too far.” But Folk explained that he was only aware of a verbal confrontation……..

    2. Well, the police were notified so I assume there will be some sort of investigation possibly followed by consequences.

  3. You mean officially released? No idea. But we know it’s Tom Bode. And he should be disavowed “Mission Impossible” style. 🙂
