Tammy Baldwin gives passionate defense of progressive movement

Speaking at the Nation Institute’s annual dinner, Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin gave a passionate defense of the progressive movement.

“It’s not that we’ve forgotten how to create wealth in this country. It’s that we have allowed that wealth to be concentrated in fewer and fewer hands. And as the distance between top and bottom has widened, the bonds between us have stretched — and broken,” she said according to her prepared remarks, which were provided to The Huffington Post. “Progressives want to restore those bonds.”

Ultimately, that’s one of the fundamental differences between progressives and today’s “tea party” conservatives. Those buying into the far-right ideology of the “tea party” movement want to see more and more of our nation’s wealth concentrated in the hands of the very richest among us, while progressives want to see more Americans prosper.

Zach W, of course, is completely off the mark on this. The fundamental difference between conservatives and liberals (you use the word ‘progressives’ because the word ‘liberal’ has become sour in the mouths of Americans) is that conservatives understand that to become wealthy one must do those things required to acquire wealth. That may mean that a certain amount of risk has to be sustained and work may be required. The liberals, however, want to take what belongs to others and distribute it among themselves.
Work, as we all know, is a four letter word.

    1. Jim,

Not only do you not know what you’re talking about, but you also don’t say it very well. Well done. It’s always good to see a conservative embarrass himself.

  2. Tammy Baldwin actually SPOKE in public? Holy shit! I thought she’d gone mute about three minutes after being elected to her FIRST TERM.

She’s pretty damn near useless. If she’s elected to the Senate you’d best prepare to never hear from her again.

Check out her “Greatest Accomplishments” on her own web page. Nothing listed there except getting federal money to help out private companies create more and more and more private wealth.
