The Cloud Around the Silver Lining Jobs Report

By all accounts, today’s job numbers were quite good.  But state and local government employment still represents a drag on the recovery.

A shrinking public-sector workforce as a share of the overall population can have a real impact on residents’ quality of life, since the services that states and localities provide — education, public safety, health care, and the like — tend to be pretty labor-intensive.  It also risks undermining future economic growth, since businesses need educated, healthy workforces and safe streets to prosper.

Public Sector EmploymentWhile Wisconsin has not seen the mass layoffs of public sector workers, Governor Walker’s “tools” have had the same impact by driving public sector workers to retire or quit.

  1. Hmm…. mass layoffs or allow them to retire early with sweetheart pensions and health benefits …. that evil Scott Walker should have laid them all off instead… yeah that would have been better.

    1. Creating a phony budget “crisis” to drive public workers into retirement is hardly a record to run on.

And calling contractually agreed upon benefits

      sweetheart pensions and health benefits

which were taken in lieu of pay is the height of douchebaggery. But then, why should I be surprised?

      1. Woodeye: I trashed your last comment as offensive. You can talk about me, but when you bring in my wife, you’ve crossed a line. You have been warned.

        1. My comment was much less offensive than your third grade name calling, but I would expect nothing less from you.
Thanks for the trashing and warning, you’ve made my day.

          1. Go back and read what I wrote.

            I did no name calling.

            I called what you said

            the height of douchebaggery

but I called you no name whatsoever.

Had I called you a douchebag, that would have been name calling. But I didn’t so it wasn’t. See the difference there?

  2. Phil, Sorry, but I am unable to see the difference, I say what i mean, if i call someone’s post stupid, I am in fact calling them stupid for thinking and then typing it. Again a personal responsibility thing, I’ll take responsibilty for my actions, I should not have mentioned your wife, and I apolagize to her for that, however my statement degraded you, not her. Buck up little fella.
Zach, as for not tolerating person insults, wow, pot, kettle, black, the vast majority of the blogs on this site contain personal insults of anyone who disagrees with left wing views.

    1. Phil, Sorry, but I am unable to see the difference

And that’s my problem because…. oh yeah, it’s not.

if i call someone’s post stupid, I am in fact calling them stupid for thinking and then typing it

No, those are different things. Calling someone’s ideas stupid is not the same as calling the individual holding those ideas stupid. The former is an opinion, the later ad hominem. I don’t do ad hominem.

Again a personal responsibility thing, I’ll take responsibilty for my actions

As do I. Your ideas are stupid but you are not (well, I don’t know you but I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt).

    2. “the vast majority of the blogs on this site contain personal insults of anyone who disagrees with left wing views.”

      Doubt it.

      Thanks for playing though!
