It’s no wonder Kelda Roys’ Congressional campaign has gotten so negative…

…they’re down by some 29 points to Mark Pocan.

According to a poll conducted July 24 and 25 by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, Inc. Democratic State Rep. Mark Pocan enjoys a comfortable 29 point lead (50-21) over Kelda Roys in the race to succeed Tammy Baldwin in the 2nd Congressional district, with 21 percent of voters still undecided.

What’s more, among the most informed voters – those who can identify both Pocan and Roys – Pocan holds a 27 point advantage, besting Roys 57 percent to 30 percent. This polling bears out what I wrote three weeks ago – the race in the 2nd Congressional district seems like Pocan’s to lose.

  1. I do not live in the 2nd CD so I am tired of hearing about Kelda Roys. Pocan has the legislative knowledge and experience to stay independent from special interest groups in D.C. just has he has done in Madison. He is liberal, and at the same time will represent the district and state well. Depending on the time Pocan would choose to stick around congress upon election, he has the ability to rise up the ranks.

  2. Yeah, and a couple of Kelda’s lame press releases today back up how far down she clearly is. Smart political move by Pocan’s campaign to release this internal poll, to illustrate just how desperate Kelda for Congress is, and why she’s acting in this self-destructive way. Pocan really does have the knowledge of topics to get the job done while staying true to Madison progressives, and I certanly feel he’s the best candidate in this election. While I have no doubt that Kelda would be progressive in Congress, she seems to want to be some kind of left-wing TeaBagger that refuses to compromise or even respect members of her own party, and she has to learn that while it’s right to go ballistic on the corruption and rights-takings of Scott Walker, that doesn’t mean you try to destroy and shout down everyone in your sight just to get your way.

Kelda (and Rick Coelho) are trying to run a big-city DC-style campaign in Madison, and that just doesn’t fly here, especially against a candidate with 20 years of goodwill built up like Pocan. And now it’ll take Kelda a few more years of goodwill to get back to where she was.

    1. Well put.

I don’t doubt Kelda’s progressive credentials, but I think her ambition (and perhaps a lack of patience) got the best of her in this case.

  3. I love Kelda as a person and as my Assembly Rep. I don’t approve of the negative ads. I chalk it up to inexperience and someone giving her bad PR advice. I hope she learns from all of this and makes a comeback someday down the road. It would be a shame for her energy and tenacity to fight for all of the right things to go to waste.

    1. Laura, there’s no denying Kelda’s a great progressive; my main problem with her as relates to the 2nd CD race is how negative she took the race. Keep in mind that while she may have gotten bad advice, she had to have made the final decision to take the race negative, because no matter what advice she was given, she’s the candidate, and she makes the final call.

Perhaps this race will be a learning experience for her, and I’m sure she’ll make a comeback at some point.
