College Democrats of Wisconsin Statement on Romney Vice Presidential Pick

From my inbox this morning, a press release from Andy Suchorski, the chairman of the College Democrats of Wisconsin. I have cut and paste the statement in its entirety and the bold emphasis appears in the original:

MILWAUKEE, WI – In a move to clarify his position on most economic policies, Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney picked students’ biggest threat in Congress as his Vice President. Representative Paul Ryan, of Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, continues to fight against the values the American people, including a large number of Wisconsin college students.

After the announcement of the chief architect of the GOP’s budget, which is balanced on the backs of students and their families, as the Republican VP Nominee, College Democrats Chairman Andy Suchorski released the following statement:

“Paul Ryan represents the most extreme, do-nothing, anti-student wing of the House Republican Tea Party Congress. Mitt Romney’s selection of him as his running mate, shows the GOP ticket has fully embraced the Ryan budget. They fully embrace cutting 10 million student’s Pell Grants nationwide. Defunding Planned Parenthood, a vital health care provider for millions of women, is part of their ‘fundamental vision’ for the country. Paul Ryan’s energy has never been focused on the issues of his district here in Wisconsin; instead, he pursues radical legislation that hurts those that need help the most.”

“Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have pledged to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which could eliminate health insurance for over 3.1 million Americans under the age of 26. These policies show that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have misguided priorities that will make college students and young Americans pay more in taxes so that the wealthiest can continue their massive tax breaks. The Romney/Ryan ticket has a proven track record of supporting the failed policies of the past at the expense of Wisconsin students and the middle class. Wisconsin students simply cannot afford a Romney/Ryan Presidency”

  1. Not sure people have seen this. But a great New York Times piece on Ryan’s connection to Koch bros and other right-wing rich.

  2. I am a “proud” member of this union local. Local 139’s union boss, Gooch McGowan supported Walker and has ALWAYS supported Ryan. I DO NOT SUPPORT RYAN AND DID/DO NOT SUPPORT WALKER.

I am the Fred Higgins mentioned in this great article by Mike Elk, In These Times. http://www.inthesetimes.com/working/entry/13669/paul_ryan_closely_tied_to_union_that_violently_threatened_union_dissidents/
It’s about openess, transparency and accountibility in ANY government.
