Paul Ryan & Scott Walker double down on a lie at GOP convention (VIDEO)

Since being chosen as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan has been attacking President Obama’s supposed “failed policies,” with Rep. Ryan citing the 2008 closure of the GM auto plant in Janesville as an example of how President Obama’s policies have failed. Despite the fact that Rep. Ryan’s attacks against President Obama on the closure of the GM auto plant have been proven to be false, Rep. Ryan has continued that attack, using the very same attack in his GOP convention speech last night.

Not to be outdone, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker doubled down on Ryan’s lie, repeating on MSNBC.

John from Democurmudgeon summed up Walker’s behavior under questioning from Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz quite succinctly:

The divide and conquering hero, Scott Walker, went into melt down mode under questioning. Walker panicked, backtracked, fabricated, played the victim and finally smarted off to MSNBC hosts on national television. Take a good look, Walker’s rage and deep seeded authoritarian nature does not react well to questions and then followup questions.

  1. If I remember right the plant did not close down until 06/2009 due to Isuzu truck commitments ?? You may want to check this out !! Jeff Simpson may want to check his dates too !!

    1. According to Wikipedia (citing the Janesville Gazette):

“57 production employees continued assembly work at the Janesville Assembly until April 2009, completing the GM/Isuzu light truck partnership and then an additional 40 to 50 “skilled trade employees” worked to decommission the plant.”

So yes, there were operations until April. With 57 people, down from a peak of 2700 in 2007. If you wish to make something of that, be my guest.

  2. Nobody in America is better at smooth talking a spin than our exhalted Governor. Give the man some credit.

  3. If you add the prevaricating Preibus to the doubling down duo of Ryan and Walker, could you conclude that they are Wisconsin’s “menage a trois” in public?

  4. I would not expect anything else from Walker or Ryan. The Koch Bros. have trained them well. My question is…why hasn’t our MSM called them out on their lie? They will keep getting away with this stuff as long as the media lets them.

  5. I truely hope the national and local media call the big three out of the lies being told. The big three are Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, and Preibus. These men apprearly will do and say anything to get Mitt/Wilbur into the whitehouse. They must be called out and the country must know this is not what we want in the whitehouse. The sad thing about it is, they are doubling down on it. THEY DO NOT COME CLOSE TO GEORGE BUSH. THESE MEN WILL SCREW THE WHOLE COUNTRY OVER EXCPECT THE 2 PERCENTERS

  6. Obama’s own words…

“Reports that the GM plant I visited in Janesville may shut down sooner than expected are a painful reminder of the tough economic times facing working families across this country. This news is also a reminder that Washington needs to finally live up to its promise to help our automakers compete in our global economy. As president, I will lead an effort to retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and all across America.”

kinda sounds like an empty promise to me

    1. Funny, because that doesn’t sound like a promise.

Never once in that statement did Obama promise to keep the GM plant open; he simply said he’d lead efforts to retool plants like the one in Janesville.
