This week on Rants Without Pants we celebrate Christmas with “A Very Pantsless Christmas”.
My plan was for this to be a lighter/fluffier special, but due to the tragic shooting in Connecticut, I felt passionately about discussing the issue of mental illness pertaining to violence. I shot that segment Saturday morning, not 24 hours after the horrific incident, so I hope the heaviness of talking about this isn’t too jarring when I discuss the other lighter subjects.
Also, in the spirit of the season, my friend BJ, a Conservative, and myself, a Commie Liberal, made a top ten list of political ideas/ideals that we agree on. We do this – “Letterman style”!
I also discuss my Christmas album called “There is No War on Christmas”, which is free to download @ http://www.brewcity101.com/content/download-my-christmas-album-there-no-war-christmas-free-line-right-here-brewcity101, some of the songs from the album play throughout the video.
00:00 – 1:40 Intro/Free Download of Adam’s Christmas Album
01:40 – 8:20- The Tragic CT Shooting (with a focus on Mental Illness)
08:20 – End My Conservative Friend BJ and Myself’s Top Ten List of Political Ideas and Ideals That We Agree On.
PART TWO WILL BE POSTED IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS WHERE I WILL DISCUSS MY TOP TEN UNCONVENTIONAL CHRISTMAS MOVIES.
During a talk to the community of St. Anthony’s School on Milwaukee’s south side, Governor Walker said he was interested in expanding Wisconsin’s school voucher program beyond the Milwaukee and Racine areas. The governor of course was preaching to the choir since St. Anthony’s is the largest voucher school participant in the Milwaukee area with more than 1,000 students using vouchers.
Whether you support voucher schools or oppose them as I do, you have to admit that the success of voucher school programs is highly in doubt. Reports on student achievement often shows few voucher schools exceed the public schools that they meant to compete with. And they are not held accountable to the same standards that public schools are.
My suggestion is a moratorium on future voucher schools until they are held as fully accountable for student achievement and teacher competency at the same levels as our public schools. And more importantly, stop expanding the program until we know that they are at least as successful at educating our young people as the existing school systems. Stop shortchanging public education if you don’t actually have a better product!
In a tremendous effort to get a dozen stories out of one visit by Governor Walker to their newsroom and a little talk locally, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today, decided to surmise on potential Democratic challengers in the 2014 gubernatorial election.
My early pick: ABBA! Anybody But Barrett Again!
Two of my favorite liberal women talked with me about my earlier post: What’s the Deal with Progressives and Agism?
I was so tuned into the issue of agism in progressive politics, partly because I am of the generation of Americans being dissed, that I may have overlooked another issue entirely.
But it was pointed out that sexism is also involved and after having these discussions, I agree.
The one person being prominently called out as too old to run for president in 2016 is Hillary Clinton, a woman. As a 69 year old woman she would be too old to run for president? I don’t think so, but…!
Considering how little was made of (although it was briefly brought up) President Reagan’s age and Senator McCain’s age when they each ran for president, I can’t deny that there is a point. And if we had a retired US Congresswoman of the same age and stature as David Obey, would she have been urged to run for governor in the recall or mentioned as a candidate to replace Senator Kohl? Probably not.
(btw: it is my contention that the Secretary of State is the second hardest and second most stressful position in the US Govt…and Hillary Clinton has more than shown her mettle)
This absolute nonsense is beyond the pale. From Friday, December 14th, 2012 (YES THAT VERY FRIDAY) TPMLivewire:
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee attributed the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in part to restrictions on school prayer and religious materials in the classroom.
“We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools,” Huckabee said on Fox News, discussing the murder spree that took the lives of 20 children and 6 adults in Newtown, CT that morning. “Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?”
So Mr. Huckabee…your god isn’t a god of peace and comfort and forgiveness at all…he is in fact a god of vengeance and spite and retribution?
Beware the evangelical christian who quotes the Old Testament to support their belief structure instead of the words of Christ. I call them Old Testament christians…who still believe in an eye for an eye and stoning and denouncing sinners. They smell more like 21st Century Sadducees than Christians.
And he also seems to be a little confused about the rights enumerated in the US Constitution, a document he swore to uphold while Arkansas governor…
“…but Huckabee suggested that the separation of church and state may have spurred his rampage.’
But I bet he’ll be head of the line to protect the second amendment should this nation actually find the balls to have a discussion about appropriate restrictions on gun ownership!
