Time To Send Sheriff Clarke ‘packin’!

I was thinking about another post about our sheriff and his refusal to co-operate with the new administrator for the Franklin House of Correction…and then this hit my email inbox…so please read:

“The data continue to show that no one has more to say about law enforcement
in Milwaukee County and less to actually do with it than Sheriff Clarke.”
– Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn

Is everyone else as sick of David Clarke’s grandstanding as I am? The latest example is that he presumes to speak for Milwaukee citizens and law enforcement – whom by massive margins agree that we need to strengthen background checks for gun purchases – in his campaign against public safety.

I’m a cop, not a politician. But that’s what we need in the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s office. I’m running to be the next sheriff because we need a real commitment to public safety – not to politics as usual.

Will you help me today by making a contribution? We can’t win this campaign and send Sheriff Clarke to his next job as a pundit on Fox News Channel without your help.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s office should lead on the issue of witness protection. The sheriff should coordinate a regional strategy to keep drugs out of the hands of kids and reduce drug-related violence. We should be working to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Instead, Sheriff Clarke spends our scarce resources on flat-panel televisions for his command staff, a horse patrol for him to ride in parades and on pursuing his own personal career goals (for which he is spending more than three months out of the year out of state, rather than on duty here in Milwaukee). And he’s encouraging more gun violence, not less.

We know Sheriff Clarke has failed at law enforcement. Whether it’s letting drunk drivers go, bullying his employees, failing at jail supervision, endangering the safety of his deputies and those around him, or mismanaging his budget – there’s no end to his failures.

Now, he’s trying to become a national political figure by staking out extreme positions to bring more guns into our neighborhoods. His dangerous words have already inspired senseless violence.

Like I said, I’m not a politician. There’s broad consensus among Republicans and Democrats – among citizens – that we need to strengthen background checks, restrict access to dangerous, unnecessary weapons and better enforcement of existing gun laws. We can respect the 2nd Amendment while also giving the police better tools to make our communities safer.

I need your help to get this message out.

I’ve served as a police officer for almost 20 years. I lead a team of detectives that solve and prevent crime every day. My team has the highest clearance rates in the City of Milwaukee for solving violent crime.

I’m running as a Democrat because I share the values of the Democratic Party. But I don’t think the sheriff should be a partisan office. Right now I work with people from anywhere and any political affiliation to make our community safer. And I’ll continue to do so as Milwaukee County Sheriff.

It’s time for David Clarke to go. I’m the right candidate to make that happen.

Yours,
Lt. Chris Moews

  1. Ed, thanks for posting this. I really believe Milwaukee County is ready for a Sheriff who’s more concerned about actually fighting crime than he is about making headlines, and Chris Moews could be that guy.

However, we’re going to need to work really hard to help Chris get elected, because it goes without saying that it’s tough to beat an entrenched incumbent, even one as horrible as Clarke.

  2. Clarke is great, only person that is telling the truth about the bad guys. Flynn and Barrett have given us the 4th worst murder city in the country.
This is the 8th poorest city in the country, 14th worst place to live. that is the Left leadership in the area. MPS is a disaster.

    1. Then leave. Nobody is making you live here. Clarke’s job is to protect civilians from the “bad guys” not to make excuses for his inability to perform up to standards. If he is going to try and pass the buck rather than do his job, we should hire somebody else who can live up to the job description. You make valid points about violence and education, both undermined by conservative idiocy. One is Clarke’s fault and the other is significantly related to the tragic theft of public resources by voucher schools.

  3. The people that we need to leave are the leftwingers that have destroyed MPS, Milwaukee cty and other governmental bodies. They have controlled and ruined this place for 100 years.

  4. What sheriff clark said is right. As a former police officer I trained to know that 5 seconds in a gun fight is a lifetime. You should know this. The average response time in our rural area is 7 to 15 minutes. Example: Think of guns as fire extinguishers. When it is safe to do so by all means call the fire department. When you need to get out of a burning building dont grab the phone first. Grab the fire extinguisher. Be very careful how you bash your rival. It may come back to haunt you. Anti firearm police officers are not needed in this country. Lets face it you alone can not change your predetermined budget. Every police station in WI and MN are short people and that trend is on the rise. Response times are getting slower because of cuts that are approved by higher up than the sheriff’s position. Be safe and speak the truth, thanks for your time.
