Waukesha Wonk shutting down

Some disappointing news from within the Cheddarsphere, as Lisa Mux of Waukesha Wonk has announced she’s shutting her blog down for good, though it appeares she’ll still be maintaining her presence on Twitter.

Here’s what Lisa wrote regarding her decision to retire from blogging.

Unlike many of my fellow progressive activists, I was not jolted into action when Gov. Scott Walker “dropped the bomb” with his 2011 Act 10 legislation. Rather, I became politically active around 1999 when I realized that George W. Bush could actually become president of the United States. Gov. Walker’s Tea Party extremism was, however, the impetus for my political blogging. But after two-and-a-half years, it’s time for me to say farewell to Waukesha Wonk.

The reason is simple: political blogging has ceased to bring me joy. Life is too short to spend your free time doing things that don’t bring about some level of joy.

Additionally, I find the tone of the political discourse of late to be disconcerting, and I’m not talking about the Republicans. Recent incidents and behavior by some on my own “side” have prompted me to question things.

Lisa’s decision to shut down her blog is a loss for the lefties in the Cheddarsphere. She’s an excellent writer, and she worked hard to stay “above the fray” that so often includes personal attacks, bomb-throwing, and nastiness, and I hope she reconsiders her decision at some point in the near future.

  1. While trying to keep up with local, state and national news, reading and participating in this blog is about all I have time for. So maybe whenever Lisa Mux feels the words must be expressed she’ll give us a shout out on BB.

  2. If Lisa wants to stop blogging, fine. But, don’t take a cheap shot at people as you’re running off the field. People have every right to criticize Mary Burke and the “you’re either with us or against us” people of Lisa’s stripe fly against the beliefs of Fighting Bob and are frankly bad for the party.

    1. I disagree. I don’t think Lisa took any cheap shots; I think her concerns do have some validity, and I say that as someone who’s probably one of the folks she was referring to.

      1. Suggesting you’re leaving blogging because liberal bloggers have violated decorum over Burke to the point that it has effected you emotional happiness, is just silly and vintage GBCW. Give me a break.

        1. Bob,
          Please re-read WW’s sign off.
It does not say anything about “…leaving blogging because liberal bloggers have violated decorum over Burke…,” you did.
Further, you have just validated her point.

    2. Bob, I believe you have just exhibited the “you’re either with us or against us” tendency you claim to object to…

  3. Lisa did not take a cheap shot at us, at least in my view. Lisa’s blogging style was always non-confrontational, unlike mine, which is highly confrontational and, at times, bizarre.

  4. I haven’t read any blogs for months because I had a lot going on in my personal life, but when I decided to return, I looked right away for waukeshawonk.com, only to be disappointed when I found it was out of service.

Lisa, I will miss you very much, but I truly hope you can take that real talent for writing and use it for something that DOES bring you joy. And will you update us, please, when you have something to share?

    xxxxx ooooo Luv U, Lisa!
