Jonathan Brostoff Enters Race for the 19th Assembly District

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Senator Chris Larson’s District Director, Jonathan Brostoff, has entered the race to replace Representative Jon Richards in the 19th Assembly District. Mr. Brostoff is now the fourth announced candidate for the hotly contested seat and joins County Board Chair Marina Dimitrijevic and attorneys Sara Geenen and Dan Adams in the race. The 19th Assembly district includes large portions of the East Side, East Town, Third Ward, Jones Island, and Bay View neighborhoods.

Although well known in Democratic political circles for his work with Senator Larson and County Supervisor Jason Haas, as a leading force for DemTeam candidate training organization, an activist with several progressive campaigns and a volunteer with local civic and charitable organizations, Mr. Brostoff will need to build his name recognition with the voting public. But he is known as one of the hardest working people in Wisconsin politics and per his announcement posted on Urban Milwaukee includes a fair number of important endorsements right out of the box:

Community leaders are supporting Jonathan’s vision for the 19th Assembly District. Senator Nikiya Harris, Representative Fred Kessler, Representative Daniel Riemer, Milwaukee County Supervisor John Weishan, Jr., former Reps. Sheldon Wasserman and Barbara Notestein, community leaders Bonnie Joseph and Paul Schmitz, business leader Patti Keating-Kahn, and NEWaukee founder Ian Abston have all endorsed Jonathan’s candidacy.

To help kick off his campaign, Mr. Brostoff’s first fundraiser is tomorrow night on the East Side:

  1. County Board Chair Marina Dimitrijevic says she wouldn’t be surprised to see some others enter yet. It will be fun reporting on this race.

    1. Yeah, I expected a crowded field on the Democratic side, given the makeup of the district. Whichever Democrat wins the primary will hold that seat for as long as they want.

  2. Thanks Jeramey…I’ll correct that later when I have a chance…and I’ll be sure to include Jones Island!

  3. I have not met the other Democrats in this race before but I have met Jonathan Brostoff in the past and he really has a lot of knowledge of the issues. I am happy to see him in the race running for office.
