Walker campaign dumps aide for racist tweets

This is satisfying…

For the second time in less than four months, Gov. Scott Walker has fired an aide for making demeaning comments about Hispanics on social media.

Walker — who has been calling on fellow Republicans to do more to reach out to minority voters — ousted Taylor Palmisano as his campaign’s deputy finance director on Tuesday. The first-term governor made the move after No Quarter contacted his campaign regarding the inflammatory tweets.

In one, Palmisano, 23, complained about an individual who was doing custodial work in a library in which she was working.

“I will choke that illegal mex cleaning in the library. Stop banging (expletive) chairs around and turn off your Walkman,” she posted on March 9, 2011.

Two months earlier, she went to Twitter to write about her bus trip from Pasadena, Calif., to Las Vegas after watching the Wisconsin Badgers play in the Rose Bowl: “This bus is my worst (expletive) nightmare Nobody speaks English & these ppl dont know how 2 control their kids #only3morehours #illegalaliens.”

What’s truly fascinating to me about Taylor Palmisano’s termination for racist tweets is the fact that the tweets in question are over two years old. I mean seriously…..some basic vetting should have found those tweets, because it didn’t take Dan Bice that long.

If (and that’s a big if) Taylor Palmisano was really fired for some racist tweets from two years ago, then whoever vetted her before hiring her for the Walker campaign should be fired for doing such a craptacular job.

  1. According to “Linked-in,” she’s a Badger :(, and interned one summer for JPMorgan. I thought I read somewhere that Walker mentioned her in his book. She’s 23. Can’t Walker get anyone to work for him?

I have my doubts that no one above her pay grade signed off on that begging letter. If that’s the case, I wonder if she resisted being scapegoated/fired and that’s what led to the release of her Tweets?

She should contact Bice and apologize for the Tweets.

  2. Thinking about this, the cynic in me wonders if Bice actually had to, “go looking,” for the tweets or did he simply get a tip from someone in the Walker camp.

Those tweets are 1)telling about the nature of the person who made them and could have been seen by Walker campaign human resource personnel as an indicator of exactly the person whom they wanted in the organization, i.e. right-wing, likely bigot, and 2)the campaign org also then had info to coerce certain behavior from the employee and a way to punish that employee i.e. use as a scapegoat anytime, if need be to save face, as this appears to me to have happened.

The governor’s inner circle, who dropped a college student from the committee appointment after discovering the person had signed the recall petition would not likely have missed these earlier tweets by Palmisano.

  3. Can the, “Gov,” sign the, “OK to racist school mascots bill,” today and then fire himself? Is Rebecca ready and up to the task? Can Joel, “Elf on the Shelf,” handle becoming the state’s “first ladyhusband,” and the move into the mansion?
