Jon Richards reiterates support for universal background checks

Jon Richards, candidate for Attorney General, reiterated his support today for universal background checks for all firearm purchases. Despite polls showing that 92 percent of Americans favor background checks for all firearm purchases, including 85 percent of NRA-members, Wisconsin’s legislature has failed to act on this crucial public safety policy.
 
“We need to do everything we can to prevent dangerous criminals from getting their hands on a gun, and that is exactly what universal background checks will do,” said Jon Richards. “Felons, domestic abusers, and the mentally ill should not be able to avoid a background check by going online to buy a gun. I will use the office of the Attorney General to enforce laws that prevent dangerous criminals from possessing firearms and continue to work with other elected leaders to close glaring loopholes that endanger public safety.”
