Leader of Catholic groups calls for liberal academics to be “taken out and shot”

During an appearance Wednesday on American Family Radio, Austin Ruse, the president of the nonprofit research group Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, opined that liberal leaders of “modern universities” should “all be taken out and shot.”

That is the nonsense that they teach in women’s studies at Duke University, this is where she learned this. The toxic stew of the modern university is gender studies, it’s “Sex Week,” they all have “Sex Week” and teaching people how to be sex-positive and overcome the patriarchy. My daughters go to a little private religious school and we pay an arm and a leg for it precisely to keep them away from all of this kind of nonsense. I do hope that they go to a Christian college or university and to keep them so far away from the hard left, human-hating people that run modern universities, who should all be taken out and shot.

  1. Mr. Ruse would have fit right in to the 12th Century’s “Inquisition.”

Obviously, he is a tea party Catholic ignoring the freedom clauses.

  2. I guess actually reading the Bible isn’t part of being a “Christian,” anymore.

    Matthew 5

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,8 let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers,9 what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?

    1. If a Catholic is a NRA member, then the gospel according Wayne LaPierre takes precedence or Alec’s Epistle on “stand your ground.” You can find either in the Bible (GOP Reform Edition).

  3. OK, Zach, let’s not let hyperbole by a concerned father be repeated as a call to arms. Many of the Church teachings on morality are today viewed as “eternal truths” based on ideal outcomes. The confessional is counted on to relieve one of the stress of what seems to be impossible behavior from the inheritors of “original sin.”

It is this active pursuit of the ideal that many catholic fathers seek from their daughters. In most cases it works to uphold at least the appearance of propriety. One cannot deny, however, that many academics regard this as the antithesis of truth and rail against it at every opportunity. Disputes have consequences and will always continue when lines have to be drawn. Especially when it comes to sex…or drugs…or healthcare.

  4. Cat Kin, one certainly cannot deny that, in your mind, you must be posting on another blog, about another point that is not the point of this post.

Earth to Cat Kin: The question is, what do you think of a Catholic leader calling for murder?

  5. I don’t think a mere concerned father is all that is happening here, Cat. A radio broadcast to a presumably conservative and likely fanatic audience, this is plain and irresponsible hate speech and Austin Ruse should be prosecuted and locked away.

Do you have any supporting evidence for you assertions about Catholic fathers or the “many academics [who] regard…and rail,” or why lines have to be drawn.

Personal experience has shown a healthy conversation, stating facts about sex, drugs and healthcare and being a parent of whom a child trusts to ask questions of, has worked exceedingly well and is wholly short of death threats to academics being made to a wider audience.

    1. I don’t think a mere concerned father is all that is happening here,

      No, NC, you wouldn’t.

  6. I agree that the “taken out and shot comment” was in poor taste and pretty stupid, assuming you are quoting him accurately. However, none of you believe he means it because he doesn’t. Now if a Muslim leader were to make such a threat, experience suggests we should take it seriously.

    1. However, none of you believe he means it because he doesn’t.

Now you can read my [our] mind[s]? The late Dr George Tiller’s family and a few of us reading here likely take Ruse at his word. Christians don’t lie, am I correct?

A Christian preacher’s son would never endanger children or the poor or the elderly by cutting off their SNAP benefits or the safety net healthcare service for 90K WI citizens by refusing to let taxpayer money paid to the Federal Government be returned to the state to provide that service, or would never withhold for two weeks someone’s unemployment benefits when it might make the difference in someone’s ability to heat their home or attempt to feed their children or prevent them from losing a vehicle or an apartment.

The “family values,” crowd would never deny oral chemo drugs to needy patients to protect the profits of insurance companies while a Lt Governor gets that same oral drug treatment on the taxpayer’s dime.

Thanks for reassuring us of the “goodness,” of this non-human hating individual. If you say so, how can we question it?

  7. Good point about reading your mind nonquixote. I stand corrected. I suppose it is possible you are quivering in fear of Austin Ruse. Strange, but possible. Oh, and the Koch brothers are under your bed.

    1. I commented on the behavior and actions of self-proclaimed conservative, family values types, in charge of governing our state at the moment. I don’t personally quiver in fear of the sociopaths behind the regressive and class and race based hate proven by the legislative and executive actions I described. I am not a hard left, human-hating person running a modern university and I seriously doubt Ruse could actually find one if he pulled his head out of his ass long enough to look for one.

And as I might have predicted, when presented with facts, your response would be to attempt to change the topic or attack the speaker (messenger) personally with some derogatory insinuations, rather than be able to even recognize, much less convey a response to those facts. If you want to debate, debate. I see you’ve already learned, “Paul Ryan’s lessons on life from sitting in a tree stand,” ™ that it is easier to hide and snipe than face reality.

  8. NonQ, since you mistakenly accused me of being off topic, it occurred to me that perhaps you are not aware of the topic at hand. I suggest that you read the title of the post. If you are still not sure, scroll down to the bold print. Still confused? Scroll further down to the underlined section. Titles, bold print, and underlining are amateurish literary devices used to ensure that even the comprehension challenged reader can enjoy the material. But sometimes it takes multiple readings nonetheless. Don’t give up!

    1. I commented on the article itself before you joined the thread Sat @ 7:52 pm.

My comments since you arrived were directed, specifically asking you to back your opinion/ belief about Ruse. I used actual examples of the real moral depravity supposed conservative Christians (Walker and the current R legislators) are capable of, in deliberately ignoring and depriving and/or mismanaging public resources meant for constituents to be properly serviced by government in real life and death situations, to refute your still unsupported claim that no one should believe this Ruse fellow and your claim that he was not serious. Deferring maintenance on a public parking garage resulting in the death of a teen, ring a bell? That death was not real enough a death for you?

I then (Sun @ 1:23 pm) accused you of ducking the argument I posed (NOT of mistakenly being off topic, another failed diversion tactic, DN), refuting your still unsupported opinion about Ruse’s seriousness or believability, wherein you then responded with a version of impugning me as being overly fearful of noises under my bed, but you’ve still FAILED to address my argument refuting your initial claim about Ruse.

Now you take a snipe at my intelligence claiming I should brush up on my reading comprehension, but you still FAIL to respond to examples I used, of the reality of what supposed family values, right wing, self-professed religious types are capable of in deliberately causing harm and destruction and death to constituents they are supposed to be humanely serving the needs of.

All my comments to you, were about challenging you to back up your claim about Ruse. All ignored by you. Not the slightest confusion on my part about my commenting on the ‘article,’ prior to your arrival, nor my clear challenging of your STILL UNSUPPORTED opinion about Ruse’s seriousness and believability.

      1. Not going to bite on the nonexistent connection between Austin Ruse and deferred maintenance on a garage. Rather, I will stay on topic. No, I can’t prove that Ruse will not be shooting college professors as that would be impossible to do. Nor will I investigate his history of shooting college professors as I am sure any such history would have been noted in the original posting. But by all means, continue to tremble in fear of Austin Ruse if you want to. Get a restraining order perhaps. Or alert the police that there is a man threatening college professors and present your evidence to them. Sniping (shooting reference coincidental and should not be viewed as a threat to you or other contributors to Blogging Blue) at me will not save the endangered professors.

        1. Thanks for the encouragement to not give up and thanks for finally admitting that you are unable to prove the negative, so-to-speak, something I already understood to generally be the case, but I considered maybe you had some insider information about Ruse, gave you the benefit of the doubt and pressed you to present it. However, your being unable to prove the comment you made, but initially presenting that statement anyway, as some sort of truth or certainly, is what I was after.

Your assertion that I am trembling about anything is another derogatory snipe at my integrity. I easily distinguish between the words someone like Ruse spews and what he might actually do himself and I am aware (Tiller) of the public incitement to violence that has happened in the past, directly attributable to Ruse’s kind of criminal and irresponsible hate speech. Nothing more to say here.

          1. Oh did you say something? I am still trying to figure out if you view Ruse as an actual threat or if you don’t. If you don’t then you are simply whining to win political points. If you do think his speech is “criminal” and an attempt to incite violence I would think any good citizen should be responsible and alert the authorities. Which is it NonQ?

  9. Only Denis could turn a piece about a right-winger’s hate into something about Muslims.

    1. Ruse is engaging in hate speech, especially when he suggests a violent remedy. Anyone defending or downplaying such conduct is an enabler, a fellow zealot, has a false conscience, or all three of the preceding.
