But remember, according to conservatives the minimum wage is a “living wage”

Just something to ponder the next time you hear an elected official spouting off about how there’s absolutely no need to increase the minimum wage.

Did you know?

  1. If every Democrat/progressive hired just one person and paid them a “living wage,” you would win every election going forward and you would save the economy. So stop your whining, start your hiring.

    1. Another uninformed and ludicrous sweeping generalization devoid of economic reality served up in a fashion that would make any fascist authoritarian dictator proud. Besides the obvious psychological projection that the mere statement of a simple fact is labeled whining (simplified, pot calling kettle black) we see the commentator shifting all responsibility for taking any remedial action completely onto others. Who’da thunk it?

      1. Shifting responsibility onto others is what your campaign is all about. If it is so easy to pay people a living wage, why don’t you do it non? Instead, you want to shift all the responsibility to the employer, as though the employee has nothing to do with the amount they earn. Apparently there is all this untapped potential out there just waiting to add value to a business. Stop bitching, start hiring.

        1. Ahhh, the Great Navra-Nak speaks mutters! My campaign? My employees not getting a minimum wage? That crystal ball of yours must be a bit cloudy from all the drool and spittle…and I thought you understood the definition of straw man arguments and that you might have some untapped potential to learn.

I accurately critiqued your first comment, defining what you actually wrote. If you didn’t like it, refute it, but instead you invent even more BS and you make yet another statement blaming and denigrating the worker.

Oh, and I was the one described (different thread) as having no sense of humor. Apparently using your deep-fried bullshit-on-a-stickā„¢ to engage in satire is “bitching,” and to top it off, we get from you repetition of your previous fascist order from headquarters.

  2. Denis,

Capitalism is the laws of Supply and DEMAND.

“Demand Leakages: The 800lb Economist in the Room”

“…Demand leakages are unspent income. For a given currency, if any agent doesn’t spend his income, some other agent has to spend more than his income, or that much output doesn’t get sold. So if the non government sectors collectively don’t spend all of their income, it’s up to government to make sure its income is less than its spending, or that much output doesn’t get sold. This translates into what’s commonly called the ‘output gap,’ which is largely a sanitized way of saying unemployment. …”

    Since 2008, here’s our current “output gap.” http://lostoutputclock.com/ .

If there isn’t a L-I-V-I-N-G wage being paid to the lowest tier of workers, where’s the economic benefit to automation aka P-R-O-D-C-T-I-V-T-Y increases to replace those jobs?

Elevators used to have an “operator,” in each car. Those low-paying, low-skill jobs were replaced by automation.

  3. Besides this blog, where was it ever written that a minimum wage should be equivalent to a “living wage” and enough to afford a 2 bedroom apartment? That’s just connecting too many dots.

      1. Living wage is not the issue. Minimum wage is.
I suspect the purpose and definition of minimum wage from 1938 is out dated.
Currently about 50% of minimum wage earners now are 25 years old and under. Part time workers.
Quick math,.. 50% are older than 25 years old. Full time workers.
Previously I mentioned Craig Culver who advocates a two tier approach,.. tier #1 for part timers and tier #2 for full time. And he puts his money where his mouth is without the government’s gun to his head, part timers make minimum and full timers make better plus benefits.
Do you have a problem with something like that?

  4. Good catch, it is written in state law. Problem solved. Thanks wile-e-coyote super genius. Next issue,…

    1. Thanks ig, always happy to help, but wouldn’t the honor of the wile-e-coyote super genius award better fit the first commentator on this thread. You know the one who’s logic and bigotry keeps running him over, blowing up in his face or sputtering out in the air over the bottomless ravine? IIRC, I posted that cartoon here last summer for my preferred and most deserving recipient.

    2. ig,

Dan Bice just published this at the MJS. How’s it for a “Next issue,…”

“Scott Walker campaign staffer OK’d statement denying political activity by county staff”

“…To drive home the point that Wink’s actions were an aberration, Walker’s then-county spokeswoman, Fran McLaughlin, issued the following statement to No Quarter, which broke the story about Wink:

“No one in our office had any knowledge that Darlene was posting any comments during work hours. The county executive and chief of staff (Tom Nardelli) expressly forbid staff participation in any campaign-related activity while on county time.”

But newly released records show McLaughlin and Nardelli drafted the statement in consultation with Walker’s campaign staff.

“Is this ok to send to Bice?” McLaughlin asked on May 13, hours before the column on Wink appeared.

She sent her original draft of a statement to Walker and three campaign aides: then-manager Keith Gilkes, then-spokeswoman Jill Bader and adviser R.J. Johnson.

“I would suggest you hold until you hear from SKW,” Johnson wrote, referring to Walker by his initials. “Too important not to.”

McLaughlin sent another draft from Nardelli to the campaign trio and Walker. “Just talked to Tom,” Johnson wrote, referring to Nardelli, who died earlier this year. “Send it.”

By conducting these conversations on private and campaign emails, Walker’s staff avoided this information be made public in an open records request. But the emails are being released now because they were seized as part of a John Doe investigation into Walker’s county aides and associates.
