Duane Dubey: We “Sand” With Scott Walker

We “Sand” With Scott Walker

No, my headline is not misspelled. But, yes, as long as Walker is governor with his relaxed environmental standards and favoritism of the corporate over the human, the negative effects of the sand mines in many Jackson and Trempealeau county communities will continue unabated. Two recent studies previously noted here cite the risk to affected communities from various forms of water and air pollution, both short and long term, due to sand mining.

Allow me to add several other negative effects one aesthetic, one recreational, and one to peace of mind. Gone forever will be the sight of many of the rolling hills of Coulee Country thousands of years old. And the fall beauty of woods and meadows will be blighted by stark and ugly mining structures and huge sand piles in the midst of peaceful rural farm and wilderness scenes. How sad! In many small communities, it is as if the noise of a highway I-90 /I-94 is present 24/7 with truck traffic. Also as an outdoorsman, I mourn the loss of thousands of acres of habitat for creatures of the wild. Where will the whitetail, the raccoon, the rabbit, other four-legged critters, as well as the winged creatures of field and forest go?

There is a solution, at least partially; each of us has the power by uniting to correct or prevent such untoward happenings visited upon man and nature by our representatives. The solution is called an “election”.

    1. Oh damn! It is after Oct 21 and and there is no guarantee to get the items before the election. Must be the, Slow Boat (shipping) from China.

Anybody have a chance to see if these items were the official reason to justify the foreign trade business expenses that Walker stuck the taxpayers with?

  1. Speaking of sand… Anyone notice Burke’s sinking poll numbers… “quicksand” This is a dive she can’t recover from. Less than a week away from her concession speech. Than the real fun begins with all of you blaming her the party leaders and everyone under the sun.

  2. Funny how when the Marquette poll looked promising it made the website instantly. When she is down 7 to probable voters I see nothing… Crickets… OF course you all knew in your hearts she is a joke of a gubernatorial candidate. Tuesday we will see her loss get ready for it guys.

      1. I apologize you are of course right on the timing of the Marquette poll and when you previously posted it.

Once again I am sorry for my previous comment related to you posting results.

  3. Squat with Burke

Bad day to be a blue fister. Waker up by 7 in the most accurate poll and it finally came out Burke was fired from Trek.

Standing with Walker for another 4 years!!

    1. The Trek thing is a smear, though I wouldn’t expect you to agree with me. Let’s take a look at the two executives who made the allegations.

Gary Ellerman, the former human resources director for Trek, is the current chairman of the Jefferson County Republican Party. Ellerman also ran as a sham Democratic candidate in the 2012 Senate recall primary to help the incumbent GOP senator in that race. According to Trek, Ellerman was fired from Trek in 2004 for poor performance.

And Tom Albers said he considered himself a conservative and had donated $50 to Burke’s opponent, Gov. Scott Walker, and $1,100 to former GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Green. What’s more, after Albers left Trek, he ended up becoming the top executive Specialized Bicycles, a main competitor to Trek.

But hey, clearly both men are unbiased sources of information, and their motives are surely pure!

      1. Thanks, Zach, for the “rest of the story” on Mary’s detractors. It seems Chris and Steve cannot defend Walker or rebut the editorial that Walker is a polluter enabler and landscape destroyer, so they change the topic. In a formal debate, the moderator would not be as considerate as you.

I believe Walker, as evidenced by the row with Christie, is beginning to sweat as are his followers. The first sign of a loser is to begin blaming someone else in his party or entourage.

  4. Zach: I would tend to believe the reports given the fact that trek will not release records to prove her growth claims. She exited the Doyle administration under questionable terms and seemingly has not been able to hold and maintain a job of any kind greater than a couple of years.

    1. Scott Walker has never held a private sector job for greater than a year or two, if that’s the standard by which we’re judging gubernatorial candidates. In fact, Walker has spent almost his entire adult life drawing a salary from taxpayers, and I’d think you’d take issue with that, considering how so many conservatives seem to dislike career politicians.

But to go back to your original point, it’s already been reported that Burke worked at Trek for nearly ten years, which by my math is a bigger number than two.

Look, I get that you really really want your guy to win, but if you’re going to come here and argue, try to come with more than the standard talking points we’ve all heard ad nauseum.

    2. Now we can understand and appreciate the IQ level you bring to your comments. If I had $4.5M of my own money to drop into my campaign for governor, I would probably feel pretty confident that win or lose the election, I would likely not have to worry about next month’s rent, utility bills and grocries, and not really feel compelled to do much work other than to engage in civic philanthropy. I do understand my comment is beyond your imagination of possibilities and experience.

  5. Zach: Please enlighten me. What is Mary Burke’s most recent work history. Aside from spending greater than $100,000 to win a local school board election she has essentially been unemployed for 7 years. Clearly her tenure with the former governor Doyle was not a prime example of “good” work. Everyone with half a brain acknowleges that she was an utter failure and left that position quite quickly.

To address your other point, Walker will win and is winning mainly because Mary Burke is utterly unqualified to be governor and most independent thinkers can clearly see that. Your team should have put up Chris Abele or Feingold or anyone else that has actual productive work experience in the past ten years.

Walker wins by 4% on Tuesday. Write it down.

    1. chris/Chris,

You might want to consider partnering with the other half of your split personality and potentially gain the benefit of a whole brain. Then it might occur to you to do an internet search for the answers to the questions you ask. Make a few more wild statements and claim it is up to readers or Zach to prove your points for you. What happened to your own intellectual bootstraps? It really isn’t necessary to come here and state that you are only using half a brain.

      1. Half a brain is enough to see a loser. You are dreaming if you ever thought Burke had a shred of a chance. Don’t worry. Tuesday is coming she will lose and the excuses will start pouring in. Magbe after walker wins his third election in four years some of you “full brained” intellectuals will figure out that Wisconsin voters support walkers agenda.

        1. Look, there’s no need to get nasty now simply because I’ve pointed out more than a few times when you’ve made statements on this blog that were factually incorrect.

    2. Chris, we weren’t talking about Mary Burke’s recent job history; we were talking about the statement you made that Mary Burke “seemingly has not been able to hold and maintain a job of any kind greater than a couple of years,” a statement that I easily refuted with FACTS.

And while you want to paint it as Mary Burke not being able to hold a job, perhaps after her time at Commerce she decided to focus on philanthropic works and running for the school board.
