Scott Walker honors Earth Day by proposing to fire 57 employees of Department of Natural Resources

Happy Earth Day, courtesy of Gov. Scott Walker!

Fifty-seven employees of the state Department of Natural Resources began receiving formal notices this week that they might face layoff as part of Gov. Scott Walker’s budget for the next two fiscal years…

The DNR’s scientific staff conducts research on matters ranging from estimating the size of the state’s deer herd to to studying the effects of aquatic invasive species. Work is paid for with state and federal funds…

All told, Walker’s budget would cut 66 positions from the DNR. Of this, more than 25% would come from the science group. Cosh said a smaller number of employees received notices than the 66 positions in the budget because some positions targeted for cuts are vacant.

  1. All part of the clearing out of anyone who might raise inconvenient questions about fracking, factory farms, mining, filling in wetlands, etc. Still it’s odd that this week Walker decided to go off-script from a Koch perspective and came out for decreasing legal immigration as a way to increase wages. He’s actually right for once and sort of brave for siding with the working and middle clases while giving the middle finger to the plutocrats and Chamber of Commerce. Wonder what the heck is going on in his campaign?

  2. Yes, finally WI citizens can get clear and accurate scientific evaluation from the mining companies and industrial farms about complying with pollution discharge limits, about evaluations of wetlands for pipelines, etc. I’m tired of all these bogus reports about endangered or threatened species blocking investor dividends and fear of pipeline breaks ruining communities. Progress for WI!

    Thanks Scooter. We’ll never forget.

    1. nq, let’s not give all the credit to Walker.

Scooter and Stepp, what a team!

Reminds me of other dual, mutual associations, past and present; Hitler and Mussolini, Nero and his violin, a pimp and his most productive employee, Joe McCarthy and Booze, Ted Cruz and Ted Cruz, Laurel and Hardy, and, well, you get the idea.

For some caustic comments on this crime against man and nature, see http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/politics/2015/02/04/wisconsin-dnr-board-members-object-to-scott-walker-proposal/22863235/

  3. Instead, how about firing the GOP moochers, political friends, Walker contributors’ family members, and all the other incompetents at WEDC as well as closing up shop for Walker’s failed privatization of the Commerce Department?

Just think of all the taxpayer dollars that would be saved not only by getting rid of the incompetent staph (misspelling intended), but also eliminating all the unearned payoffs to “new” businesses and other corporate swindles.
