Long-serving Wisconsin labor leader Marty Beil has died, according to a release from AFSCME.
Beil died peacefully Thursday night at his home in Mazomanie, according to the release. He recently retired after more than 40 years as a leader of AFSCME.
Beil served as executive director of the Wisconsin State Employees Union, AFSCME Council 24, since 1985. He started his career in 1969 as a probation and parole officer.
Though he had his critics, no one can dispute Marty Beil was a fierce advocate for working people all across Wisconsin, and his death is a loss for the labor movement.
Zach, thanks.
