Randy Bryce to Challenge Paul Ryan!

Local political activist and friend of Blogging Blue has thrown his hard hat into the ring for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District in 2018, a seat currently held by House Speaker Paul Ryan:

A Democratic veteran and iron worker announced Monday he will challenge Republican Paul Ryan for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District in 2018.

The long-shot bid will pit Randy Bryce against the most powerful member of the U.S. House. Ryan, former vice presidential candidate and current House speaker, has held the district in southeastern Wisconsin since 1999.

Bryce, a union leader who served in the U.S. Army, lost races for the Wisconsin’s Legislature in 2012 and 2014 and lost a 10-way primary for Racine County Board of Education in 2013. Bryce said he’s learned from the losses and is planning to raise at least $2 million for this run.

“I’ve learned a lot,” Bryce said. “The people of Wisconsin know who I am. I have community roots.”

A spokesman for Ryan had no immediate comment.

  1. I’ve worked with Randy in the field, Randy as a solid blue collar Iron Worker, me a heavy equipment Operator. He’s a smart dedicated hard worker we would should all consider hiring for the job of working for all Americans, NOT just the rich.

  2. Why are Trump and Ryan at the start of this video? Why not footage of Bernie in Wisconsin and how Bryce backed him? Better correct this strategy pronto.

    1. Bernie is a full corporate Democrat. Instead of backing Hillary as he planned to do all along, he could have actually taken the high road and run as an independent he claims he is. He should have run on what he was espousing in his campaign and the three way split would have im in the POTUS chair.

I like your enthusiasm Steve, but let’s be factual here.

      1. Darn typos (not enough or too much coffee) “…would have put him in the…”

Think about it, winning and the Bern would have had to go against his political leanings and act on his rhetoric in some fashion. That was never going to happen.

unless you are faking the usual poster under this name I cannot disagree with you more. I voted for Bernie in the primary and still point out to people the DNC should have sat out the primary as well as if Bernie was the nominee my expectation he would be in the White House right now.

However, since he ran in the primary he should not run as an independent?

Why? I think he would have lost and been simply (and ONLY) labelled a vote splitter rather than the increasingly recognized figure he is now.

  3. If Democrats can’t get excited about someone like Randy Bryce taking on Paul Ryan, than the Democratic Party here in Wisconsin is effectively dead. You want choices, you want contrast? Here you have it in full.

Hopefully the Party doesn’t pretend Bryce doesn’t exist, like they have Paul Ryan’s last several opponents.

  4. Yes! Truly, here’s someone to get excited about.

If anyone can topple the insurance industry’s representative in Washington,Ryan, it will be a people’s person such as Randy Bryce!

    1. Duane12, I tried to address the concern you brought to my attention earlier today…but seem to be having an email problem. Did you receive my replies?

    2. hopefully my email issue has been resolved and you should have a reply to your query.
