Jobs Should Never Come Before Public Health Unless You Are Ron Johson

Wisconsin Republican Senator and major embarrassment, Ron Johnson apparently sent a letter to President Donald Trump asking that flavored vaping liquids remain available for purchase. This despite recent major lung problems for users of vaping products. This despite long term health issues of vaping are unknown. This despite recent reports say the actual flavors trigger the same brain centers as nicotine and are as addicting.

BUT THE JOBS!

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson is urging President Donald Trump not to move forward with flavor restrictions for vaping products, citing worries about job losses and fewer alternatives for cigarette smokers.

Johnson in his letter to Trump said banning many flavors would put some vaping product manufacturers out of business and potentially could destroy the vaping industry.

“Many stakeholders in the e-cigarette industry are small businesses — over 10,000 according to some estimates — so an outright ban on the most popular flavors purchased by adults will likely force them to close,” Johnson said.

I have no issues with changing the rules around vaping. Definitely rid the market of sweet or addicting flavors. Raise the age to 21. I wouldn’t mind having vaping products totally removed from the market except for by prescription for ending cigarette smoking.

But jobs should never be more important than the health and safety of the American public.

If Senator Johnson really wants to do something about vaping, maybe he should push through some legislation and federal funding to determine the long term effects of vaping…maybe he can volunteer to be a test mule. At least then he’d have something productive to do with his mouth for a change.
