And We Have A New Record…

While the Open Wisconsin crowd is trying to make their case today in Madison…we set a new record for one day positive test cases…that makes the past three days the worst three days in Wisconsin…sigh…so far.

Wisconsin records 304 new cases, a record high

For the second time in three days, Wisconsin health officials reported a record number of positive tests for the coronavirus, with 304 new cases taking the overall total to 5,356.

The record increase in positive tests — the previous high was Wednesday’s 225 — came as the state also reported more than 3,400 test results, nearly 50% more than it has reported in a day previously.

Deaths totaled 262, an increase of five from Thursday.

The Department of Health Services had yet to update the breakdown by the time it released Friday’s new case totals, but as of Thursday’s numbers:

49% of patients did not meet the definition of a recoverd (sic) patient

46% of COVID-19 patients were listed as recovered

5% had died

Hopefully the WI State Supreme Court will let data, science, and medicine decide when we can open the state.

The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported Friday morning that more than 350 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 and nearly 200 inpatients were awaiting test results. About 300 patients were ventilated.

  1. Positive tests are up, but total tests are WAY up. This is a good thing. It means we are testing at a much higher rate, which we will need to do to get a more clear picture of what is truly going on with the disease. Further, most of the surge is due to some outbreaks at meat packing plants in Brown county. Aside from that we are doing pretty well as a state. In fact, the total people in the hospital with Covid is pretty much level over the past week (source https://www.wha.org/COVID19Update) despite the increase in positive tests.
