Pass This: NOW

Going back a moment to one little tidbit from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article that I linked to in my previous post:

“For almost a month we have been at work on a bill that includes essential provisions dealing with everything from Medicaid to the first week of unemployment,” Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, said in a statement.

emphasis mine

What Sen. Fitzgerald is referring to here: “the first week of unemployment”, in Wisconsin, the unemployed don’t get benefits for that first week that they are out of work. The proposal would be to eliminate that waiting period. And given that Wisconsin, just as the the nation has a whole, has seen a significant spike in unemployment the past several weeks, it is imperative that this change get made.

So why the hell hasn’t it? Why does this one provision have to wait for whatever omnibus bipartisan catchall bill they’ve been writing for the past month?

Sit down…write up the unemployment proposal…let it stand alone…vote it in unanimously on its own…it shouldn’t take much longer than the sessions that were gaveled open and closed in 17 seconds. Jeez Louize…this stuff isn’t that hard…and a few hundred thousand Wisconsinites will benefit as will the state as a whole.
