Kentucky Senator Supports Use of Masks

No silly, not Rand Paul, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who suddenly realized in his election year that face masks poll well…even in red states:

  1. Mitch..you are a little late to the game. After three months, you come out and say face mask are a good idea.

  2. It isn’t the first time that a politician sided with propaganda over science, but make no mistake: Masks Don’t Work.

    From the link…
“There have been extensive randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies, and meta-analysis reviews of RCT studies, which all show that masks and respirators do not work to prevent respiratory influenza-like illnesses, or respiratory illnesses believed to be transmitted by droplets and aerosol particles.

Furthermore, the relevant known physics and biology, which I review, are such that masks and respirators should not work. It would be a paradox if masks and respirators worked, given what we know about viral respiratory diseases: The main transmission path is long-residence-time aerosol particles (< 2.5 μm), which are too fine to be blocked, and the minimum-infective dose is smaller than one aerosol particle."

Science: Learn it, Know it, Live it.

  3. Well don’t tell all of the nations that have and are using masks and seeing their case counts decline.

    1. OSHA explains that cloth face coverings “will not protect the wearer against airborne transmissible infectious agents”

OSHA also explains that surgical masks alone “will not protect the wearer against airborne transmissible infectious agents” for reasons similar to the limitations of a cloth face covering.

That seems pretty conclusive. Unlike some, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration seems to know that you don’t jump to conclusions from statistics unless you understand correlation, causation, coincidence, and confounding factors.

In summary, the earth is round (an oblate spheroid actually), vaccines work, and masks don’t (for this covid application).

      1. For COVID-19, nobody is denying that wearing masks is of limited protection expressly for the wearer. Mask wearing is protection for others when the wearer is the one infected. The chart I put up several days ago shows the efficacy of wearing masks when one person is infected and one isn’t…the maximum protection is when the majority are all wearing masks. And btw: if there was no protection in wearing masks nobody would be making a big deal about getting complete PPE protection for front line medical staff…OSHA or no OSHA…show me their guidance recommending the ER doctors forgo masks.

      2. The point of the post was not about the efficacy of wearing masks to limit the spread of Covid-19, it was about Mitch McConnell and his very own CYA move to gain any political advantage he might imagine is necessary to hold his Senate seat and how much more ridiculous he causes himself to appear.

Readers, I’m guessing, realize that it is sometimes difficult to recognize the topic of a post when triggered by a key word, mask, while obsessed with the peculiar notion that you’ve repeated here ad nauseam.

You are forwarding your comments to Robin Vos, I hope.

        1. The word “Mask” is not a trigger anymore than a Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon. If Mitch wants to wear one to show awareness, compassion, or whatever, good for him. What provoked a response was the dangerous and deadly disinformation contained in the post. Masks are not “about protecting everyone we encounter”. I don’t know were this conjecture that masks are some sort of biological diode came from, but all the scientific studies show that they are not. If you are infected, the only way to not possibly kill other people is to quarantine yourself.

          1. Well, the results on the ground in places like the Czech Rep., South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand seem to indicate otherwise.

          2. Pour me another one, just like the other one.

Sorry if I missed it but, where is your quote coming from, “… about protecting everyone we encounter…? I admit I have a life outside of Blogging Blue and with 22 years on appointed municipal government positions (with no salary or payments for service rendered) statements from you without naming any of “all the scientific studies…” which you quote as to the ineffectiveness of masking in public, once again illustrates an ill-informed and non-factual personal stance that no one should apply any credence to.

You do sound like a person that would be enjoyable to meet and have a drink with. I don’t hate or dislike people who don’t know what they are attempting to speak to politically.

            1. non, in previous discussions with Ed I included links to studies that showed that “Evidence of a protective effect of masks or respirators against verified respiratory infection (VRI) was not statistically significant”. Sorry you missed the links. Here’s a few of ’em you missed…

Link with lots of embedded links
“No RCT study with verified outcome shows a benefit for HCW or community members in households to wearing a mask or respirator. There is no such study. There are no exceptions.

Likewise, no study exists that shows a benefit from a broad policy to wear masks in public (more on this below).

Furthermore, if there were any benefit to wearing a mask, because of the blocking power against droplets and aerosol particles, then there should be more benefit from wearing a respirator (N95) compared to a surgical mask, yet several large meta-analyses, and all the RCT, prove that there is no such relative benefit.

Masks and respirators do not work.”

              And an OSHA link…
‘OSHA explains that cloth face coverings “will not protect the wearer against airborne transmissible infectious agents” ‘

If you find yourself deep in the northwoods (Forest County, the only county in Wisconsin without a traffic light) on a bar night*, stop in and have a few on the house. That goes for you too, Ed.

*decades ago we bought a bar on a lake and, while we don’t run it, occasionally we’ll open it to friends and family. FYI: Your money is no good here, masks are optional, but we have a strict pants policy.

            2. Maybe one more will help you see the light…

From a CDC study published in CDCgov journal, “We found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks.”

Masking is not science, it’s belief, ritual, and dogma. It’s now just another chapter in the catechism of the progressive. Next thing you know, unbelievers will be closed out of the temples of comment for their heresy.
