WI State Senator David Craig On Gov. Evers Mask Mandate

The following letter was a response by State Senator David Craig to one of his constituent. They urged him to support Governor Tony Evers statewide mandate to wear masks in public places. This was originally shared on social media and I reprint it here with the recipients permission.

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns with Governor Tony Evers’ statewide mask mandate. I appreciate hearing from you on this most serious matter.

Once again, Governor Evers has exceeded his authority with his unlawful order. The Governor knows full well that this mask mandate will fail a legal challenge. His intentional abuse of power should concern all Wisconsinites who hold the rule of law dear.

Please also know that I continue to be outraged by the actions of Governor Evers and Department of Health Services (DHS) Secretary-designee Andrea Palm. Their actions since the beginning of the pandemic have consistently been heavy-handed, unlawful, and arbitrary. Now, Governor Evers’ attempts to institute a statewide mask mandate after having his administration’s previous order struck down by the Wisconsin Supreme Court is nothing short of a brazen overreach of his authority under state law and the Constitution. Further, the Governor’s latest order is not aligned with recent data, science, CDC guidance, commonsense reason, nor on the most fundamental constitutional rights of all Wisconsin residents.

Each individual, business owner, and municipality is capable of deciding how best to protect themselves, their employees, their customers, and constituents. Whether continued social distancing, frequent hand-washing, or other voluntary safety measures, each individual can determine which guidelines satisfy the safety needs of their operations. A top-down, heavy-handed, one-size-fits-all state mandate is illegal, unconstitutional, and imprudent given the vast difference between regions of the state.

I have already called on my colleagues in the legislature to convene an Extraordinary Session and act immediately to block this unlawful order!

Rest assured that I will keep fighting to balance our civil rights, economic activity, and safety for all citizens during this pandemic as we work re-open Wisconsin and restore our liberties.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I always appreciate hearing from constituents on matters before the legislature. If you should need additional information or assistance with this or any other matter relating to state government, please feel free to contact me at (608) 266-5400 or email me at Sen.Craig@legis.wi.gov.

Best Wishes,

David Craig

State Senator

28th District

“Please also know that I continue to be outraged…” Oh please! What you should be outraged about is the total lack of consistent policies at the national and state level to control the spread of the coronavirus…and the fact the Wisconsin residents are getting sick and are dying on your watch.

Your Extraordinary Session should take action to stop the disease and help Wisconsinites and stop trying to make political hay while your constituents are dying.

  1. As a constituent of Sen. Fitzgerald I will be wasting my time and writing him later tonight. How is it that our republican lead state house is now support local and individual rights? They have a well documented history of big government intrusions into local governance. Our local school boards are subject to numerous rules and regulations put in place by &*^$%# republicans as are our local municipalities, heck they even banned local governments from banning plastic bags. I wonder if this upcoming special session will repeal these intrusions into our daily lives, or if Fitzgerald will end the special session in a mere 30 seconds like he did over legislation supported by 70+% of Wisconsinites.

  2. Looks to me like he’s blowing smoke out not breathing, most of the smoke comes out where the sides of the mask and the nose bridge met the face, so is the mask purposely fit to loose to be effective? do we know the size of the smoke particles?

    1. Ain’t smoke, it’s water vapor. These aerosols are the same as the micron and sub-micron level drops of moisture that your body releases every time you breath out. Kudos to you Geo for bothering to watch something that may conflict with your beliefs. Stay open minded, kind, and safe.

      1. So you agree it’s not a valid comparison as it’s obvious he’s blowing hard and not properly fitting the mask.

            1. Did that cliched belief get handed to you by your Pharisees or did you come up with that trite piece of dogma on your own?

              1. It will end soon, there’s no anthropogenic climate change, conversion therapy works……the list of proven sound science found unbelievable by righty is long
