Blogging Blue was created in July 2007 as an outlet for one guy’s thoughts on politics, current events, sports, and whatever else happened to be on his mind. From one lone contributor, Blogging Blue has grown to include five regular contributors, two semi-regular contributors, and one guy who contributed one single entry. Our political beliefs fall decidedly left of center, so if a liberal point of view isn’t your cup of coffee, then this isn’t the blog for you. We welcome a lively discussion, especially from our conservatives readers, because the whole point of this blog is promote a healthy (and sometimes heated) discussion.

  • Zach W lives in a south shore suburb of Milwaukee, and he likes spending time with his wife and kids, tending his vegetable garden, or playing with his dog, among a myriad of hobbies and interests. When it comes to blogging, Zach’s primary area of interest is all things associated with elections and political campaigns.

You can reach Zach via email at zdubbya [at] bloggingblue.com

  • Ed Heinzelman is a long time resident of the City of Milwaukee, the last 30 years in Bay View. A mild mannered computer programmer by day, a Milwaukee MSBL Hall of Famer, he lives to play baseball all summer and plan the next season all winter. During the off season you’ll see him at gallery nights, the Rep, the symphony, the ballet, and other cultural events around town or hanging out at Drinking Liberally. Political bent is somewhere over there on the left…maybe just a bit further over there on the left.

And Ed put his money where his mouth is by running for Milwaukee School Board in 2011.

You can contact Ed at ed@bloggingblue.com

  • Jeff Simpson lives just outside of Madison with his wife and two kids. He’s employed as a salesman for a global consumer products company and gets the pleasure of traveling the great state of Wisconsin for work. He recently took some time off from blogging to beat cancer and is now happy to be back in the game. Politically he isn’t tied down to a party; he prefers candidates who use common sense and do the right thing! He has not worked much on campaigns, except his own once, and he prefers being involved more locally in terms of being on both village committees and school board committees.

  • Paul “MadCityMan” is a resident of the Capital City, where he enjoys the amenities of life in one of America’s great cities and states. As a former resident and frequent Milwaukee visitor, he is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the train (if Walker or Neumann don’t screw it up) hoping it will increase his visits and business connections with Milwaukee. He loves information and is intrigued by infographics on trends, economics and politics – not bad for someone who hated statistics while in school. A proud progressive who once voted for the Ford/Dole ticket (go figure) and threw his vote away when voting for Anderson/Lucey, his political perspectives continue to evolve with a strong liberal bent.

  • Mark Bear resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with his wife of 26 happy and fun filled years. In 1996, Mark was told he was terminally ill due to his having three heart attacks and one stroke within a period of about six months. The Doctors finally found the cause and it was due to Mark having Systemic Lupus. While no cure is still on the horizon, Mark lives each day as though it was his last and refuses to be a victim.

Mark’s background is in the following specializations: Social Psychology, Consumer Psychology, Group Behavior, and the fields of Research Methodology and Statistics. Mark currently teaches at the Online division of a reputable brick and mortar University. Furthermore, he recruits and trains sales consultants for the automotive industry with manufacturers, prominent dealers, and smaller vendors.

Mark considers himself a “left to center” liberal when it comes to politics. He strongly feels society is headed to a catastrophic event should it not turn away the affinity it has towards individualism versus collectivism.

Mark holds membership in the following organizations: the American Management Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and the Association for Trainers and Developers. His dissertation dealt with the problematic issues surrounding the construct of blind obedience to an authority figure; attributes he considers to be representative of Tea Party members. Mark is brand new to Blogging Blue and is excited to be part of the family.

  • Phil Scarr was politically activated (in the manner of Neo in The Matrix, flushed from a big tank into the sewers) in 1981 following Reagan’s crushing victory over Carter.  He has witnessed our long, slow national descent into madness and he is not happy about it.  He worked on the Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton, Clinton, Gore, Kerry and Obama campaigns gathering signatures, knocking on doors, sending money, beating drums and generally being a nuisance to his friends and neighbors.  He marched in numerous protests in college against the policies of the Reagan administration, especially the illegal wars in Nicaragua and El Salvador.

While his views on labor unions, social justice, politics and economics have remained fairly constant, the nation has lurched to the right like a drunken zombie hunting for brains at a GOP convention leaving him looking almost exactly like a dirty hippie Socialist.  And he’s OK with that.  He remains in a state of constant “WTF???” for which there is no known cure.

Phil moved to Wisconsin in 2005 from Virginia expecting to enjoy the fruits of living in a Blue state and he’s quite cross with you Badgers for letting him down.  Ron Johnson? Scott Walker? REALLY?!?!? And then, to add insult to injury, Virginia goes all Blue after he leaves.  This has not been his decade.

His favorite political films are All the President’s Men, The State Within and They Live! (“It’s a movie about Republicans”) from which he derives the awesome tag line, “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass…and I’m all out of bubblegum.”

Phil has far more education that is good for someone living in these times.  He clings desperately to both undergraduate and graduate degrees in anthropology and archeology.  He is currently obsessed (not in a good way) with the study of macroeconomics because if he can’t fix the global economy, nobody can.

He has the great misfortune to live in Waukesha and is the co-chair of the world’s smallest Drinking Liberally chapter there (along with his co-sufferer, Waukesha Wonk aka Lisa).

You can find him abusing all manner of conservatives and Tea Zombies on Twitter most evenings.  His Twitter handle is @muttmutt.  Follow him.  You won’t regret it.  Just ask his wife.

  • Lisa Mux began blogging as “Waukesha Wonk” (www.waukeshawonk.com) in April 2011 as a positive way to vent her frustrations about Wisconsin politics. As a Waukesha Liberal, she has a lot of frustrations.

In November 2011, Lisa joined forces with Phil Scarr, her “Waukesha Wonder Twin,” and together they formed the first-ever Drinking Liberally Waukesha. That worked out well: http://livingliberally.org/drinking/blog/Drinking-Liberally-Waukesha-stunning-success.

Lisa’s long-term goals include bringing empathy back, and turning Waukesha blue. She realizes that her attempts to achieve these goals may be futile, but she’s going to try anyway.
