Honadel Scores a 36, Brower Raises Bucks

The Wisconsin League of Conservation voters have released their conservation scorecard for members of the Assembly in 2007-2008, and to no one’s surprise, Republican State Rep. Mark Honadel scored third from the bottom in with a score of thirty six percent. Now what does that score mean? It means Rep. Honadel voted in favor of key conservation bills only thirty six percent of the time. As I said, it should surprise no one that Rep. Honadel consistently votes against conservation, but given the makeup of the 21st District, one would expect his record on conservation to be a little better than third from the bottom.

Switching gears while still focusing on the 21st Assembly District, I’ve been able to confirm Democratic candidate Glen Brower has raised over $20,000 since announcing his candidacy, closing the gap between himself and Rep. Honadel, who had just over $30,000 cash on hand in June. Raising $20,000 can’t be seen as anything but a tremendously good sign for Brower’s campaign, and in a year that is obviously trending towards Democrats, it can’t be viewed as a good sign for Rep. Honadel.

Brower on the Ballot, Gaining Momentum!

It’s official : Glen Brower is on the ballot as a candidate for the 21st District Assembly seat currently held by Republican Rep. Mark Honadel. Brower submitted 396 signatures, roughly 30 more than Rep. Honadel, and he’s also got momentum, having received the endorsements of Assistant Assembly Minority Leader Jon Richards, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and Progressive Majority Wisconsin.

While it’s a great start to the campaign for Brower, he’ll no doubt still face an uphill climb in his bid to unseat Rep. Honadel, who at last glance had roughly $30,000 cash on hand. Having met and spoken with Brower, I know he’s up to the challenge, and I’ve got no doubt he’ll give Rep. Honadel quite a fight throughout this campaign.

An Interview With Glen Brower

Recently it was my pleasure to have the opportunity to sit down and chat with Glen Brower, the Democratic candidate running against Rep. Mark Honadel in Wisconsin’s 21st Assembly District. Upon meeting and speaking with Mr. Brower, I was struck by two things: his obvious passion for serving the public as well as his desire to fundamentally change the way our state government works.

Our interview started with the question all candidates should be able to answer without hesitation: “Why are you running for office?” When asked the question, Brower responded that he was running for the Assembly because he was outraged at the course our nation and our state had taken in recent years, and he noted he wanted to make an impact on the issues affecting Wisconsinites as a member of the State Assembly. Brower also noted his lifetime of service, both as a member of the United States Army and as a public servant, and he stated he wanted to continue to serve the public and contribute to the community as a member of the Assembly.

Wisconsin’s 21st Assembly District

After years of running unopposed, it appears State Representative Mark Honadel is going to have an opponent this year in the race for Wisconsin’s 21st Assembly District. Two individuals - Justine Kozanoglu and Glen Brower - have filed the necessary paperwork to become official candidates. I don’t have much information on either of the two candidates at this point, but I’m hoping to be able to get interviews with both Brower and Kozanoglu in the very near future. While it’s too early to say if Brower or Kozanoglu will have a real chance of knocking off Mark Honadel, it’s exciting to see not one, but two Democrats step up and give him a fight after years of running without opposition.

I’ll have more on this race and each of the candidates in the near future.
